Main duties of the job:

Assisting with the preparation and serving of all meals and beverages to patients

Ensuring that the kitchen and service areas are clean and tidy

Ensuring health and safety regulations are followed

Cleanliness and replenishing of vending machines

Maintaining outstanding levels of customer service and safe guarding company assets

General cleaning of the food areas

Food services Royal Free Hospital Private Patients' Unit

Food services at the Royal Free Private patients' unit is managed by the PPU Catering department,

Our team consists of 20 staff which include the chefs front of house and the kitchen porters.

We prepare freshly cooked food using the finest ingredients and deliver a high level of service. It's the small touches that patients expect in PPU, an experience that reaches the standard of a five-star hotel.


Detailed job description and main responsibilities:

Service Responsibilities
2.1 Deliver Food Services in Patient Services, Restaurant, Vending and/or Hospitality.
Some duties will include using mechanical or electrical equipment, for example using the dish machine.
2.2 To assist where necessary/appropriate with basic food preparation, including vegetables, fruit, salads, sandwiches etc.

Ensuring that all food is served is to a high standard and always bearing in mind portion control, content, temperature and appearance.

2.3 Prepare the service area with the necessary service equipment, cutlery,
condiments, food etc. as directed by the Supervisor.

Assist with the safe and effective cleaning of meal service areas and equipment before and after service in accordance with cleaning schedules and the correct operation of cleaning and dishwashing equipment as instructed.

The post holder will operate a 'clean as you go' policy of work at all times.
2.4 The post holder is an ambassador of the trust and will wear his / her correct uniform and ID badge at all times and be courteous and polite to colleagues, staff,
patients and visitors of the hospital in person, when answering the telephone or dealing with any service issues or requests
3.0 Food Safety Responsibilities
3.1 Observe Food Hygiene & Safety Regulations at all times.

Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and a clean and tidy appearance of yourself and any area you work in, in accordance with the Hygiene Policy and current legislation.

3.2 The post holder must maintain a high standard of personal hygiene and fully comply with the Trust's Hygiene Policy and all current food safety legislation.

Including the reporting of illness to a supervisor.
3.3 The post holder must observe COSHH and attend COSHH training. He / she will ensure that any PPE, for example a facemask, gauntlets etc.

3.4 The preparation of catering records as instructed.

3.5 The post holder will dispose of waste food and general waste safely and correctly using the waste disposal unit where appropriate.

3.7 Ensure that the first in first out principle of stock rotation is used and that attention is given to shelf life dates when receiving and issuing goods.

3.8 Comply with the departmental and current food safety legislation in all tasks undertaken.
4.0 Other responsibilities

4.1 To follow catering department policy and procedures and to report any mechanical or safety defects and the need for repairs to the supervisor or duty catering manager in his/her absence.

4.2 To report any accidents, near misses or incidents immediately as per the accident/incident procedure and inform a manager.
4.3 To attend training sessions as required and team meetings.
4.4 The post holder must ensure correct and economical use of materials and equipment as instructed.
