Based at Royal Edinburgh Hospital

Duties & responsibilities:

We have a great opportunity for a permanent Band 8A full time Applied Psychologist within the Learning Disabilities Psychology Service in NHS Lothian.

You will be based in one or more Edinburgh City Community Learning Disability Teams, where you will provide specialist assessment and therapy to address the psychological needs of people with learning disabilities.

You will work closely and creatively with multidisciplinary colleagues to improve the wellbeing of clients, as well as contributing to the development of the Learning Disabilities Psychology Service.

You will have opportunity to develop your skills in supervising and teaching others (e.g. assistant/trainee psychologists, MDT colleagues) as well as building on your existing experience of providing specialist assessment and therapy for people with learning disabilities.

We are looking for an applied psychologist who is passionate about the rights of people with a learning disability, and can display the skills and creativity to ensure psychological assessment and therapy are accessible for people with learning disabilities and their carers.

You will also have an aptitude for developing collaborative relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues and supporting other staff to develop their skills in psychological work.

As this is a Lothian wide post it is possible that at some point in the future the post holder may be required to provide input to other localities within Lothian.

The Learning Disabilities Psychology Service provides a friendly, supportive and stimulating environment in which to work.

Staff within our service have a range of clinical interests reflecting a variety of theoretical and therapeutic orientations, and you will be supported by the service's consultant clinical psychologist/professional lead and two 8b psychologists, as well as a peer group of band 8a psychologists.

Edinburgh and the Lothians are a great place to live and work.
