The successful applicants will assist in the overall delivery of care to patients within the mental health and clinical substance misuse team of HMP Wymott.


You will be responsible for the care needs and the development, implementation, and evaluation of programmes of care for mental health and clinical substance misuse.

The successful applicant is required to demonstrate a "can
- do" attitude, be resilient and possess excellent leadership qualities.

The service operates 7 days per week, during core day time hours.


They will work towards providing the highest standard of care for the prison population ensuring consistent and effective nursing practice as well as operational activity.


  • To lead and manage referrals into the service, arrange assessments, prioritise Crisis intervention.
  • Prioritise and organise teams workload.
  • To take a lead in the delivery of clinical substance misuse services.
  • Provide expert clinical leadership to the team, ensuring delivery of effective clinical expertise and advice to the team, including the provision direction and participation.
  • Administration of medication, including controlled drugs.
  • To manage and take responsibility for a defined caseload and ensure full compliance with the CPA, Safeguarding, Vulnerable Adults and other policies at all times.
  • To ensure a culture of care is evident within the team where clinical staff enable and empower service users.
  • Provide professional supervision and management supervision to an agreed number of nurses within the team.
  • Provide expert support to nurses in:
  • Completing needs assessment to service users.
  • In risk assessment and management.
  • In crisis planning and management.
  • In assessing and responding to patient/ carer's needs.
  • In care planning and review of care plans.

  • Manage and carry out continuing responsibility for a defined caseload of allocated patients.

  • Represent Integrated mental health and clinical substance misuse team in appropriate meetings / forums.
  • Contribute and lead on existing systems within the team, such as CPA
  • Provide robust mental health/risk assessment and safety planning
  • Provide clinical and professional supervision for Band 5 nurses
  • Contribute to line management, achievement of training, audit, MDT strategic approach
  • Provide cover for the lead nurses in their absence
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with the wider partnerships teams within the establishment
