Lucchini Unipart Rail Ltd is a joint venture between Lucchini RS Group of Italy and Unipart Rail Ltd, combining the wheel and axle machining and wheelset and gearbox capabilities in Manchester, formerly known as Lucchini UK Ltd, with the bogie overhaul and wheelset trading activities of Unipart Rail Ltd in Doncaster.


The Bogie Division, Doncaster provides a complete 'depot to depot' bogie overhaul service to train operators and owners, delivering highly reliable quality of bogie performance across the complete overhaul cycle with a capacity to produce 1000 bogies annually.


Job Overview


To carry out skilled, overhaul activities on bogies for the rail industry, typical activities to include but not limited to; Inspection / measurement, component overhaul, building of assemblies and system testing.

Work will be undertaken within a production environment, working to targets and deadlines to meet tight customer schedules.


This is a two shift rota, mornings and afternoons with a 12.5% shift allowance included in the salary stated above.

Weekend overtime available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to the companies HSE procedures to maintain a safe working environment for yourself and your colleagues.
  • Ensure that you work area is kept clean and free from obstructions and waste, maintaining a good standard of general housekeeping, adhering to 5S standards.
  • Embrace Lean / Continuous Improvement methodologies, actively seek operational improvements, to meet the customer's needs.
  • Actively take part in any training required to enhance your role / job knowledge.
  • Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner that promotes cooperation with colleagues and other departments.
  • Adhere to company quality standards and procedures, adopting a "Right first time" approach.
  • Safely carry out all manual handling / lifting activities in the correct and trained manner.
  • Work meticulously to route cards, work instructions and SOP's, recording critical information and signing for activities undertaken.
  • Always wear correct PPE, when carrying out all tasks / duties
  • Carry out reasonable duties as requested by your manager.

Qualifications, Knowledge & Experience

  • Apprentice trained in a mechanical discipline, City & Guilds Level 3 or BTEC Level 3 qualification.
    Paperwork required
  • Background in heaving engineering fitting (i.e. HGV, Bus, Rail, Aerospace or motor mechanics)
  • Essential
  • Good literacy (English), numeracy, and communications skills.
  • Basic Computer knowledge
  • Understanding of work instructions / procedures, paper, and digital formats.
  • Physical capability to crawl under bogies and manual handling of tooling / components.
  • Be willing to carry out a broad range of tasks across all areas of manufacturing process.
  • Excellent timekeeping, attendance, and safety awareness.
  • Take responsibility for their own personal development.
  • Basic understanding of lean principles (5S).
  • Excellent teamwork ethic.
