Description

The Junior Trust Grade Doctor forms an integral part of care delivery within the Neurology Division at The Walton Centre.

The role is complementary to the role of junior doctors in training, although it is not a training post.

The post-holder will be able to access the same educational opportunities within the Trust as trainees, and will be allowed study leave and a small study leave budget to facilitate access to wider educational opportunities.

An Educational Supervisor will be allocated to each post-holder.

The Trust is keen to support those post-holders interested in gaining national selection.

Post-holders will work on the wards, but will also have a full commitment to the full shift rota cover the whole Trust.

The morning starts with a Consultant handover meeting attended by all teams, following which each team subdivides and undertakes a ward round, clinical work emanates from this round.

Also there will be opportunity to conduct emergency clinics under the close supervision of a Neurology consultant.

The junior Doctor will be encouraged to take part in service development including QIP and audit.

Emergency patients are dealt with by SMART (Surgical & Medical Acute Response Team) which has a junior doctor as part of the Team.

Close liaison with SMART is essential to ensure effective patient handover takes place.

The role is ideal for those doctors who are considering a career in Neurology/ Neurosurgery or related disciplines as it will allow development of specific skills in a busy and expanding specialist Neurosciences Centre.


attend all mandatory training as specified in the Corporate Induction and mandatory Training Policy co-operate in the Personal Development Review process take responsibility for ensuring that they are part of providing a quality service for patients that is safe, effective and personable.

Staff are responsible for familiarising themselves with local and trust documentation that relates to quality and improving the patient experience be aware of their Data Quality responsibilities; They must complete paper based documentation and enter computer data accurately and use it correctly; Ensuring they endeavour to comply with the standards as described in the Trusts Data Quality Policy, Information Security and any other associated documentation.
