Description

We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic Speech & Language Therapist with an interest in working with pre-school children with developmental speech and language needs.

The Islington Additional Needs and Disability Service (IANDS) provides a multi-disciplinary and multi-agency team approach to working with babies, children and young people who present with additional needs and complex disability.

Within IANDS there are teams providing assessment, diagnostic and therapy services to children in early years, special schools and mainstream schools.


The post holder will work in the Early Years Speech and Language Therapy team which provides clinic-based assessment, support and intervention for pre-school children with a range of speech, language and communication needs.


The post holder will carry out assessments and provide a range of intervention, including language groups, video Parent-Child Interaction therapy (vPCI) and speech sound therapy.


The Whittington and the community health services in Islington and Haringey are award winning organisations, delivering acute and community based health services to a population of 443,000 people.


The organisation is the biggest employer in the area, with over 4,500 staff; delivering healthcare not only on the acute hospital site which has 420 beds, but also from a variety of other community based health centres and through visits to patients homes across the boroughs to address the health needs of the local population.

Whittington Health also works with other health, social care and voluntary sector partners to support patients and service users from their initial appointment whether it be with a community health team or at the hospital, all the way through to treatment and tailored after care.

The post holder will design, deliver and analyse assessments, both informal and formal, as appropriate for children under 5.

They will make differential diagnoses and give timely and tailored advice and support to parents/carers and key others, to ensure they feel confident to implement strategies and activities across the child's various communication environments.

The post holder will deliver direct intervention, which may be individual, paired or group therapy, involving parent/carers in decisions and goal-setting, ensuring therapy plans are evidence-based and using outcome measures to monitor effectiveness and progress.
