    Job summary

    Here at Gloucester Health Access Centre, we are seeking a practice nurse to join our growing team, to provide excellent care to the people of Gloucester.

    Main duties of the job

  • Clinically, the role will include all elements of treatment room nursing.
  • Chronic disease management, dependant on training and experience.
  • Working within infection control policies and other CQC requirements.
  • Conduct all duties in accordance with the NMC (Nursing and Midwifery Council) code of professional conduct and other local/ national policies, guidelines, and protocols.

    G DOC LTD is owned by all the GP Practices in Gloucestershire; thePractices are our shareholders.

    We operate on a not-for-profit basis: any profits are redistributed intoprimary care in Gloucestershire.

    We are a limited company run by a Board of Directors, most of whom are experiencedlocal GPs.

    We run a number of GP practices, as well as some other services for thewhole county.

    In Gloucester we run 9,500 patients at Gloucester Health Access Centre/MatsonLane (9,500 patients) and Partners inHealth (12,400).

    In the Forest of Dean, we run two practices, both of which aredispensing: Lydney (7,500 patients), and Blakeney (3,200 patients).

    Our countywide services include:

    The Enhanced Access Service, which provides GP appointments inGloucester and Cheltenham at weekends.

    The Covid Virtual Ward: we monitor oxygen readings from people diagnosedwith Covid, to ensure that they get help if their oxygen levels start to fall.So far, we have cared for over 2000 patients.

    Over 17,000 primary care appointments each year at Gloucester HealthAccess Centre for patients who may need to be seen the same day when their ownpractice is already full, or who do not have a registered GP. GHAC is open8am8pm, 365 days a year.

  • Essential:

  • Awareness of accountability of own and others roles in a general practice surgery
  • Knowledge of health promotion strategies
  • Awareness of local and national health policy
  • Knowledge of clinical governance issues in primary care
  • Knowledge of infection prevention and control
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Passion for high quality patient safety and care
  • Clinical skills wound management, venepuncture, ECG
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Management of patients with long- term conditions including Asthma, COPD and Diabetes
  • Knowledge of population health issues
  • Knowledge of public health issues in the area
  • Clinical skills cervical cytology, immunisation and vaccination, contraception, travel health
  • Annual long- term conditions reviews, including Asthma, COPD and Diabetes
  • Ability to support patients to change lifestyle

    Qualifications

    Essential

  • Registered Nurse
  • Desirable

  • Mentor or teaching qualification
  • Long term chronic disease qualification
  • Experience

  • Minimum 2 years post-registration experience

  • At least 1 year of primary care experience (GP surgery)
