Job Introduction
We have an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated individual to join our Internal Audit Team.

The Service provides a comprehensive and varied range of internal audit services on behalf of the Council and our external clients.

The Internal Audit Service is the key player in influencing and informing the decision-making process on the control environment of the County Council and its partner organisations to provide a primary source of assurance on strategic and operational objectives to ensure organisational outcomes are achieved.

Main Responsibilities

As a senior member of the team you will be reporting directly to an Audit Manager, you will be responsible primarily for carrying out a range of complex systems based audits across the Council and project support work within agreed timescales and to quality standards.

Your role would include working with stakeholders across the Council and Partner Organisations, including Members, Directors and Senior Management, as well as undertaking the supervision and support of other team members.

This role also supports both counter-fraud and special investigations work under the direction of the Counter Fraud Audit Manager.

We are looking for an individual who has risk-based audit and advisory experience together with a proven ability to deliver a planned programme of work, is attuned to the challenges of emerging risks, technologies and innovation and at the same time have the ability to assist in safeguarding processes and assets as management pursues new methods of creating and delivering value across Staffordshire County Council's business operations.


  • Be CCAB qualified (preferably CIPFA), or CMIIA qualified;
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to convey detailed information to individuals at all levels of the organisation:
  • An eye for detail and a strong attention to accuracy;
  • Need to possess a thorough and logical approach and be comfortable working on own initiative to meet critical deadlines;
  • Proven relevant experience in a previous audit environment, providing impactful assurance and advisory services; and
  • Ability to anticipate risks and issues that could affect the organisation's ability to reach its goals.
