About the role:
We are looking for a Senior Buyer to join our Purchasing & Logistics Department.

You'll be responsible for supporting the Purchasing & Logistics Manager to ensure the supply chain is effectively managed with regard to cost, quality and timeliness.

To be successful in this role, you should have had extensive experience as a buyer in a senior role within a similar manufacturing environment.


Responsibilities:


  • Responsible for overseeing all commercial interactions with suppliers, including negotiation of proposals and obtaining information about products and/or services such as pricing, payment terms and delivery schedules required for manufacturing process
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with key suppliers. Negotiate favourable terms, pricing, and contracts while maintaining open lines of communication. Collaborate with suppliers to address any supply chain disruptions, quality issues, or delivery challenges.
  • Collaborate with production, inventory, and planning teams to forecast material requirements accurately. Develop procurement plans that align with production schedules while considering lead times, order quantities, and inventory levels.
  • Drive costsaving initiatives through effective negotiation, competitive bidding, and value analysis. Monitor market trends, changes in pricing, and economic factors that could impact procurement costs.
  • Process material and service requisitions in a timely manner to prevent downtime and ensure uninterrupted supply.
  • Identify potential risks in the supply chain, such as geopolitical, environmental, or regulatory factors, and develop mitigation strategies to ensure uninterrupted supply and minimize disruptions.
  • Deliver key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess supplier performance in areas such as quality, delivery, and responsiveness. Regularly review and analyse supplier performance data to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Establish and maintain long term, positive working relationships with suppliers, customers and internal team members and interact with a high level of professionalism and ethics.
  • Track supplier nonconformance, corrective actions and facilitate material returns through RMA process.
  • Collaborate with internal teams, including engineering, quality assurance, and logistics, to ensure that purchased materials meet the required specifications and standards. Communicate effectively to align procurement activities with overall business objectives.
  • Effectively communicate timing of material delivery, payment terms and product discrepancies
  • Review, negotiate, and manage contracts with current and new suppliers to ensure terms are favourable and comply with company policies and legal requirements, ensuring on time delivery and material cost savings and avoidance.
  • Operation of Sage and MRP system and adherence to MRP buy signals
  • Issue RFQ's, Statements of Work, and blanket, contract, or spot buy purchase orders
  • Action sourcing plans to support NPI process to deliver new projects in line with target timeframes
  • Work with other purchasing and logistic departments owed by Sunrise Medical UK to ensure common process, procedures and best practice are shared and implemented to support overall strategies & Initiatives
  • Accurate maintenance of all database systems, including entering purchase orders to ensure proper documentation of supplier and purchasing related material, both paper and digital, is filed appropriately.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, technological advancements, and emerging suppliers. Continuously assess the market to identify potential sources of innovation and competitive advantage for all sourcing/quoting decisions.
  • Provide guidance, mentorship, and direction to junior procurement staff to ensure they are following processes and procedures. Share industry insights and best practice.
  • Any other work as assigned by the Purchasing & Logistics Manager

Essential Criteria

  • 4+ years buying experience within a manufacturing environment
  • 3rd Level education in related field or CIPS Level 4 qualification.
  • Experience in NPI sourcing and International Trade
  • Excellence in the management of EPR systems
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office specially excel, word and outlook
  • Experience of Sage and MRP systems
  • Detailed understanding of manufacturing processes & environment
  • Numeracy and understanding of finance for stock management
  • Excellent analytical and creat
