About the Role:

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Healthcare Assistant within Ambrose Avenue Group Practice.

Role responsibilities / job description includes:

  • Undertake all patient health checks, including new patients, senior patients and all other eligible patient population.
  • Support the practice nurse with health promotion programmes
  • Carry out baseline observations such as pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, pulse rate, height and weight recording findings accurately
  • Facilitate routine and 24hour BP monitoring, advising patients accordingly
  • Undertake wound care, dressings and other clinical tasks as required
  • Support the practice nurse with the management of chronic disease clinics
  • Carry out BMI checks as directed
  • Carry out INR clinics.
  • Act as a chaperone as required
  • Undertake Venepuncture clinics
  • When trained, administer flu vaccinations
  • Visit housebound patients when required.
  • Carry out ECGs as requested
  • Ensure specimens are recorded and ready for onward transportation
  • Provide support during minor operations as required
  • Ensure all clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session
  • Ensure fridges are cleaned routinely in accordance with extant guidance
  • Ensure clinical waste is removed from clinical areas and sharps bins replaced in accordance with the practice Infection Control policy
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate
  • Undertaking all other clinical activities identified by the Management or clinical team in accordance with the agreed protocols.
  • Assist Practitioners with emergency management of patients.

You will have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care or equivalent;
  • Ideally a qualification in Phlebotomy/Venepuncture;
  • Strong clinical skills;
  • Confidence and competence in all HCA duties required for the post;
  • Experience within Primary Care and/or Healthcare setting;
  • Excellent patientfacing communication and interpersonal skills;
  • Consistently confidential manner as well as a compassionate and respectful approach, placing a high value on the dignity of patients, relatives, carers and colleagues;
  • Ability to work independently and determine own workload priorities as well as working as part of a multidisciplinary team;
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
