    Job overview

    The opportunity has arisen for an experienced, talented and ambitious Service Manager to join the Long Term and Unscheduled Care Directorate managing our oncology, active against cancer and haematology services.

    The post is 4 days or 30 hours per week, to be agreed through discussion with the General Manager.

    This is a critical senior operational manager post, with the post holders being core members of a clinical triumvirate along with the Group Clinical Lead and Matron. Working to a General Manager, these posts are responsible for a Care Group, ensuring the delivery of safe and high quality patient care and striving for the delivery of excellence in all areas.

    Main duties of the job

    The successful applicant will work together with the teams to deliver high quality, safe and sustainable services. A good knowledge of change management practice, a robust understanding of acute and community services and their interface with the local health economy and excellent communication skills are essential. A commitment to embedding service improvement recommendations and working with our stakeholders is key. Regular supervision and support is built into the role and this is a fantastic opportunity to develop strategic leadership skills and work more closely with our Trust quality improvement methodology to support service developments.

    Detailed job description and main responsibilities

    Support the General Manager in the operational and efficient and effective management of the Directorate.

    Ensure a streamlined approach for the delivery and development of operational services within the Directorate.

    Be responsible for the development and delivery of specific areas of the business plan and the achievement of the relevant standards within the annual health check.

    Work with the service to ensure that service and workforce plans are developed monitored and delivered against agreed quality, finance and performance criteria.

    Work with senior members of the Directorate to take delegated responsibility for monitoring and ensuring that agreed SLA activity and access targets are understood, met, and where necessary, delivery plans are adjusted to reflect the achievement of national targets

    Be accountable for the sustained delivery of key operational service standards, and be responsible and accountable for delivering financial budgets.

    Develop capacity and business planning models for the services.

    Foster an effective style of team working and an approach to decision making which ensures that the wider Directorate and Corporate agendas are appropriately reflected within the Directorate's plans.

    Operates independently to manage designated departments/ services.

    Sustains safe service delivery.

    Qualifications

    Essential criteria

    • Professional knowledge acquired through degree/diploma or equivalent experience at degree level.
    • Evidence of continuing professional development

    Experience

    Essential criteria

    • Proven managerial and leadership experience within NHS
    • Significant experience of leading and managing multi-disciplinary teams
    • Project Management experience
    • Experience of working across agencies

    Desirable criteria

    • Experience of commissioning in either Local Authority or NHS setting
    • Additional qualifications in project management

    Knowledge

    Essential criteria

    • Detailed knowledge of and application of the principles of clinical governance
    • Excellent IT skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications – Outlook, Word, Excel & PowerPoint.Supervisory/appraisal skills
