CONTEXT:


This post is for a Community Engagement Officer to support the Project Manager to grow and develop the Shildon Alive Project based in Shildon, County Durham.

This role is funded by the 'The National lottery community fund.' The Community Engagement Officer will engage with all levels of the community to achieve several clearly described outcomes around enablement, improved health and well-being, the erosion of isolation, poverty and associated issues.


MAIN PURPOSE OF JOB:

To use a Community Development approach to work with people of all ages across the community and listen to and develop their ideas with them to create volunteer opportunities, and work alongside the project manager to create networking possibilities for the preferment of the community to work closely with existing partner organisations to offer a multi-agency approach across the town and wider communities.


  • Make connections with partner organisations to increase the support network for families and individuals living in poverty.
  • Arrange project visits to Shildon Alive with the intention of educating people about the importance of inclusivity, reducing food waste, improving the environment and to promote engagement within the community.
  • Working with members of the community and volunteers to develop and plan community events.
  • Community gardening with children and parents in our community garden. Building strong community and family connections, helping them to learn how to grow their own produce.
  • Communicate with projects with similar ethical views across the Northeast to arrange project visits to enable us to learn from each other, working together to develop social justice projects.
  • Provide educational and social activities at Shildon Alive and in the community to provide social interaction and establish the hub as a communal area for people of all ages.
  • Work closely with Shildon Children and Young people's action Network and Auckland Youth and Community Centre to support and develop our existing Youth Group.

The project management committee, through the project manager.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To work to achieve the outcomes set out in the governing document.


To support the day to day running of Shildon Alive, community gardens and cookery workshops and enable volunteers to develop appropriate skills.


To promote the 'Shelves for all' to people and provide a holistic, food aid project in partnership with other agencies.

To develop strong relationships with local people and to work with them to identify their issues and concerns.

To enable members of the local community to create appropriate activities and responses to these concerns.

To work in partnership with other local organisations and workers to promote effective joint working.

To inspire, co-ordinate and support volunteers, and to foster a collaborative approach.

To establish opportunities for volunteers, including further training.

To take part in any future training opportunities which arise to support your role.

To encourage and support reflection on the issues raised through the project.

To promote equal opportunities and challenge discrimination.

To keep records and give regular reports.

To contribute to the ongoing evaluation of the post.

To seek project funding opportunities.

To take a role in the establishment of any potential social enterprise.

To always work with due regard to the health and safety of all involved with the project.


NOTES:

  • Level 2 or above in Community Development or similar qualification essential
  • Full UK driving licence essential.
  • This post will require working some evenings and weekends.

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract

Contract length: 36 months


Salary:
£25,761.00-£27,330.00 per year
