Education Scotland has a responsibility for the quality assurance of the assessment content and for supporting the continued delivery of the assessments.


The post-holder will lead on the quality assurance of assessment content for the Measaidhean Coitcheann Nàiseanta airson Foghlam Tron Ghàidhlig (MCNG).

In addition, the post-holder will support Education Scotland to take forward the actions in our Gaelic Language Plan and increase the pace of Gaelic uptake within the curriculum in the secondary sector.


Job description:


As an Education Officer you will:

  • Lead critical activity in relation to the quality assurance of all national standardised assessment content for the MCNG

Activity includes:

  • Leading the coordination of the quality assurance of all assessment items and the associated materials.
  • Lead officer responsibility for the development and maintenance of effective business relationships with the service provider in the delivery of the MCNG.
  • Liaise with the Gaelic Medium Education sector, the voluntary quality assurance panel, and other key partners and stakeholders to provide up todate advice and guidance on MCNG.
  • Work with Scottish Government to review and analyse edata from the MCNG to provide recommendations for ongoing improvements and identify implications for wider Gaelic language policy.
  • Provide leadership and support to service providers to develop their shared understanding of the curriculum content requirements for the MCNG.
  • Support the implementation of relevant aspects of the National Improvement Framework plan and commitments in the National Improvement Programme.
  • Take a lead role in supporting leaders of improvement and change within schools to challenge features of curriculum design within the secondary sector to enable an increased proportion of the curriculum to be delivered in Gaelic, Gaelic Medium.

Essential Criteria

  • Strong leadership and management skills in delivering improved outcomes for children and young people in Gaelic Medium Education.
  • Ability to lead and manage projects and proven track record of successful delivery against key performance indicators.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well independently and in a team with the ability to convince and negotiate in promoting excellence and equity for Gaelic.
