    Description
    Junior Locally Employed Doctor in Paediatric Surgery

    The Department of Paediatric Surgery is the Specialist children's surgery centre in North West England including Neonatal, Oncological, Thoracic, Urology, Inflammatory Bowel Disease and specialist Day-case Surgery, and the surgery of intestinal failure and short bowel Supra-regional service supporting Exstrophy, hyperinsulinemia of the New-born, Metabolic disorders.

    The Department is part of the Surgical Directorate of the RMCH and is headed by the Clinical Lead or Surgery.

    The department is staffed by 11 paediatric surgical consultants, 6 paediatric urology consultants and 9 Specialty Registrar run through trainees, ward-based Paediatric and Paediatric Surgical core trainees, and locally employed doctors.

    We require Junior Locally Employed Doctors to work at Core Trainee level, as part of a surgical team. Daytime duties comprise clinical activity on the wards, in theatres and out-patient clinics. There are two Junior Locally Employed Doctors/CTs allocated to paediatric urology and three to paediatric surgery.

    During the day the successful applicant will be expected to cover elective and acute commitments in paediatric surgery and urology.

    Out of hours cross cover arrangements will include ENT and orthopaedics supported by registrars and consultants in those specialties and robust induction will be provided to facilitate the out of hours crosscover.

    There are opportunities for the successful candidate to become involved in current research projects and we have a newly formed research meeting to facilitate this.

    There is an expectation that the applicant will be involved in an audit project with the opportunity to complete audit cycles and present findings at local meetings.

    The urology department will offer an opportunity to be involved in preparing abstracts for the main national and international scientific meetings with an opportunity of presenting the work and subsequently writing a scientific article under expert supervision.

    Qualifications & Training
    Medical Degree
    Significant Experience in full time (or equivalent part time) hospital service in CT1or 2 grade or higher
    Experience in Paediatric Surgery or Urology
    Academic Achievements
    Distinctions or Prizes during undergraduate training
    Full Registration (or eligible for full registration) with the General Medical Council and Licensed to practice
