    Introduction

    The Catering Services of the House of Commons is possibly the largest 'in-house' catering operation in London. We have catering outlets in 6 separate buildings including the iconic Houses of Parliament, offering a unique place to undertake your apprenticeship. You will be working with a multi award-winning team of chefs (in the UK and International Catering Competitions).

    The Catering Services are primarily here to provide a food and beverage service to the 650 MP's, their staff, staff of the House and the many visitors that come on to the Parliamentary Estate each day.

    The Role

    This is an apprenticeship role in our busy catering team. As well as gaining your Level 2 Commis Chef apprenticeship which is fully funded, you will assist senior chefs in the efficient and effective running of a designated kitchen.

    As part of this role, you will be able to spend time in our in-house Butchery and Pastry kitchens.

    After successful completion of the apprenticeship there will be the opportunity to apply and interview for a permanent role if a position is available.

    Some of the responsibilities for this role include:

    • Ensure that given daily tasks are carried out to the required standard. Assists with the daily preparation of required mis-en-place as instructed by the Senior chefs.
    • Inspects dishes for quality, temperature and attractiveness before service if required.
    • Clearly, concisely, and promptly communicates relevant information to all kitchen staff and liaises with senior chefs.

    Skills and Experience

    The following qualifications are required for this role:

    • GCSE (or equivalent) at A*-C/4-9 in English
    • GCSE (or equivalent) at A*-C/4-9 in Mathematics

    To be successful in this role you will demonstrate:

    • A passion to work in the catering industry with a commitment to build knowledge of food and cookery.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills, both written and oral, experience of using basic I.T programmes (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • The ability to work effectively and inclusively as part of a diverse team often under pressure and to prioritise own workload.
    • An understanding of why customer service skills are so important in the industry, with the ability to respond quickly to customer needs.
