    PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

    In this role you would take part in a variety of projects and areas of work, and provide expertise in a supportive multi-disciplinary company. Technical knowledge, of waste, permitting and testing is required.

    ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

    The duties are many and varied, but the list below is considered to be the basic requirement:

    • Increasing the visibility of the rapid testing and remediation both internally and to external clients.
    • Driving on our commitment to reducing and reusing waste.
    • Developing the CL:Aire, exemption and mobile treatment offerings.
    • Developing the accreditation of the rapid testing methods and equipment.
    • Developing other rapid testing offerings pH, Asbestos, Sulphates and more.
    • Educate, inform and challenge whilst ensuring conformance.
    • Assisting with the management and developing the rapid testing and remediation departments.
    • Build and maintain Stakeholder and Regulator relationships.
    • Ability to balance thoroughness with commercial demands.

    Sampling, Testing and Remediation

    • Ensure samples are taken in accordance with the sampling Standard Operating Procedure from sites as directed.
    • Ensure soil samples are prepared for analysis as per Standard Operating Procedure (using XRF and UVF equipment).
    • Ensure soil samples are analysed as per Standard Operating Procedure and Methods.
    • Ensure validation samples are sent off to nominated MCERTs Laboratory.
    • Report on validation testing.
    • Report analysis to our clients as required.
    • Maintain the analytical equipment.
    • Prepare analysis validation reports.
    • Feedback on improvements to analytical methods/equipment.
    • Manage rapid testing lab and staff.
    • Work in accordance to EA guidance and regulation especially with respect to rapid testing and sampling.
    • Work with internal and external clients on remediation projects. Assisting with the project's management.

    Compliance

    • Undertake external training relevant to your role.
    • Assist in the implementation, writing and continuing improvement of Quality and Environmental management systems.
    • Represent the company with clients.
    • Co-ordinate with external consultants regarding permit applications/variations, monitoring and planning.
    • Carry out site audits internally and externally.
    • Work toward and attain COTC (WAMITAB) qualification as required.
    • Assist in training and writing toolbox talks as required.
    • Work towards being a Qualified Person in respect to CL:Aire MMP.

    Assessment

    • Make site visits.
    • Liaise with clients and give advice.
    • To be able to Interpret and feedback on findings from Ground Investigation reports.
    • To understand the process being investigated by 3rd party sites in relation to the GI reports when accepting waste.
    • To have a clear understanding of the testing regime for WAC and Leachable testing and the knowledge to understand where there is an absence of information that should have been provided.
    • To liaise closely with clients and internally, if there are any disputes in the material acceptance process and to provide proof of how and remediation or segregation works, will be undertaken effectively on site.
    • To undertake the writing remediation strategies/ assist in the compliance of those provided, for onsite works in relation to contaminated areas on site and instruct site staff accordingly.
    • To have a full understanding of the waste assessment process as per WM3.
    • Ensure the company is fully compliant with Duty of Care.

    KNOWLEDGE, TRAINING, QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED TO DO THE JOB

    • Clear and confident communication skills (verbal and written).
    • Highly developed and creative approach to problem solving.
    • Good interpersonal skills.
    • Self-motivated and proactive.
    • Can work independently or as part of a team.
    • Shows initiative, drive and enthusiasm.
    • Pragmatic with a flexible approach to work.
    • Accuracy and attention to detail.
    • Preferably Educated to a minimum of HND/Degree level.
    • Numeracy skills.
    • IT skills, including working knowledge of spreadsheets, databases and Microsoft Office.
    • Existing knowledge of waste management would be beneficial but not essential.
    • Full, clean UK driving license.
    • Preferably with WAMITAB or working towards.
    • Preferably SSSTS or SMSTS.
    • Preferably possess a management or supervisory qualification.
