    The Intensive Care Unit / High Dependency Unit provides high quality care for patients with a wide variety of medical, surgical and obstetric conditions in a critical care environment.

    Work under the direction and supervision of the ITU Nurse in charge to support the ITU team in the provision of delegated nursing care to patient and to maintain an efficient environment suitable for the care of critically ill adults.

    You should possess excellent communication skills, be willing to work flexibly as part of a team and be committed to high standards of working. The working hours of this role will be a mix of day and night shifts however we will be open to flexible working requests. We have a high standard of care on ITU and we are looking for someone who will complement our team and who will give compassionate and dedicated care to our patients. We have a strong focus on professional development and would be keen to develop new members of staff with clinical competencies and appropriate training.

    Main duties of the job

  • To provide personal care to the patients as prescribed in the individual plan of care and supervised by the registered nursing staff.
  • To support and assist patients, as required, maintaining their personal hygiene, toileting and appearance, personal grooming and dressing.
  • To support and assist patients with their nutritional needs, helping them as necessary to choose and eat their meals and beverages.
  • Perform venepuncture and cannulation
  • To ensure stocks are within safe levels
  • Assist in the care of clinical emergencies under the direction of the nurse in charge.
  • Process blood samples for gas analysis, reporting all results in a timely manner to the Registered RN responsible for the patient, maintain stock levels for the ABG machine.
  • Perform Blood Glucose monitoring in accordance with Trust policy
  • Assists with care of patient's property and valuables according to Trust Policy.
  • Assist with pressure area care and adhere to Trust guidelines/policies on manual handling
  • Assist in the preparation of patients for procedures/investigations and collect specimens as required.
