Application Process

  • Vetting and Medical Assessments
  • Begin Training
The DC Accelerated entry scheme has been created with support and quality delivery in mind. Recruits will first, and foremost, be trained to be police officers. Diverging after basic training from the traditional probationer constable route way to undertake bespoke criminal investigation training.

Designed to give them the skillset to enter CID as a trainee Detective Constable after just 42 weeks of training*.


Training Schedule

  • 18 weeks basic officer training
  • 8 weeks tutored uniform patrol
  • 16 weeks criminal investigation training
  • Entry into CID as a Trainee Detective
  • Entry into National Investigators Exam (NIE)
  • Portfolio of investigative work working towards accreditation as a Detective Constable
  • Inclusive of holiday

Basic Eligibility Criteria

  • You have been unsuccessful following a BTP Police Officer interview in the last 6 months.
  • You have been unsuccessful following shortlisting or online ability testing for a BTP Police Officer within the last 3 months.
  • You have ever received a custodial sentence (other cautions, convictions and involvement with the police must be declared during the vetting process but are not necessarily a bar to employment).
  • You have been declared bankrupt, have a CCJ or an unmanaged IVA.
  • You have tattoos that are deemed offensive; A visible tattoo is permissible, as long as it is not on the face, head or front or side of the neck. Visible tattoos are permissible on other areas of the body, including hands, arms, legs, and feet. A visible tattoo is also permissible on the back of the neck as long as the tattoo is discreet and behind the ear lobe. Discreet tattoos on the ear are also considered acceptable. Consideration will be given to tattoos on the face that were necessary following medical procedures or for cosmetic procedures e.g. eyebrows.
