Senior Planning Officer
Role Overview:
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide planning advice, negotiate improvements, propose solutions, and negotiate and agree on S106 Contributions concerning physical development proposals, particularly major schemes, to various stakeholders.
- Offer advice and assistance in the preparation of Local Development Documents, Supplementary Planning Documents, etc., including attendance at public meetings.
- Prepare written submissions and act as an expert witness at planning appeal hearings and inquiries as required.
- Prepare and present reports at the Development Control Committee.
- Liaise with other council officers, members, and external bodies to achieve desired outcomes and address customer needs.
- Assist the Principal Planner in driving continuous improvement in Development Control services through best practices and innovation.
- Utilize IT and office practices efficiently in delivering Planning Services.
- Maintain professional competence through continuous professional development and disseminate knowledge to colleagues.
- Represent the Principal Planner at meetings with Officers of other Local Authorities or stakeholders.
- Assist in supervising subordinate staff and checking their work as directed by the Principal Planner.
- Perform other reasonable duties within the job's overall purpose as directed.
Additional Information / Local Agreements:
- Willingness to attend evening meetings as required.
- Must be willing to travel.
- Must hold a valid driving license.
Person Specification:
Education / Qualifications:
- Degree or Diploma in Town Planning or relevant field (E)
- Relevant professional qualifications such as RTPI/PICS (E)
Skills / Experience:
- Proficiency in planning ICT software
- Concise and accurate report writing skills, particularly for major development sites
- Experience with Project/Programme Management techniques for major development projects
- Ability to communicate improvement ideas and develop proposals
- Wellorganized with the ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
- Ability to exercise technical/professional skills in a political environment with sensitivity and practicality
- Excellent presentation skills
- Proficient time management skills

Job Types:
Full-time, Fixed term contract
Contract length: 6 months
Salary:
£32.31-£42.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37 per week
