Trainee EstimatorDoor Group, a unit of ASSA ABLOY Opening Solutions UK & Ireland is a leading manufacturer of high-performance steel and timber doors, tailor made to individual project requirements from its Powershield, Prima, Safeguard and SMARTec ranges.

Door Group offers an end to end solution including the Service and Repair of many varying door types through a dedicated department, which incorporates Fire Door Inspections_.

An opportunity exists for a Trainee Estimator within ASSA ABLOY Door Group, reporting to the Project Manager. This role is based in Lisburn, Northern Ireland.


The primary objective of this position is to:
Develop the skills required for a sub-contractor/product estimator. To analyse customer enquiries and prepare and submit commercially viable, competitive quotations.


Key responsibilities and duties are:


  • To provide a friendly and dedicated estimating service to our customers
  • Review enquiries received to establish complexity of quotation and required return dates
  • To ensure that the relevant team members are aware of opportunities being priced and reporting on any positive or negative issues that may occur before, during or after the estimating process
  • Seek any missing information either through direct communication with the customer or their associates and/or with assistance of the Regional Sales Manager to enable complete and accurate preparation of quotation
  • Prepare and submit accurate quotations based on detailed takeoff of information supplied with enquiry
  • Liaise with customers and regional sales managers to ensure accurate and timely preparation of quotations. Any relevant communication with the customer should be shared with the Regional Sales Manager and/or Project Manager to ensure effective management of the opportunity
  • Prepare and adhere to a daily/weekly priority plan for return of quotations based on tender due dates, discussions with customers, management requirements and/or requirements identified by the Regional Sales Manager
  • Follow up with customer to ensure quotations have been received and to establish initial level of satisfaction or informing sales staff of status to ensure their prompt followup
  • In conjunction with the Purchasing Officer obtain prices from suppliers for costs of unique materials or hardware not currently covered by price lists and follow up to ensure responses do not interfere with programmed response times
  • Reporting any difficulties in achieving set targets or information received from customers or suppliers that may affect the receipt of orders or the interest of company business development
  • Accurate filing of enquiries and quotations to ensure their ease of future access
  • To contribute to the development of the estimating function through innovative ideas that will help improve efficiency, serve customers better and add to the overall success of the business unit

While full training will be provided, experience in any of the following would be advantageous:

  • Commercial experience in construction building products industry
  • Experience with CRM/ERP software packages
  • Experience with pricing packages
  • Ability to read and understand construction drawings and schedules
  • Have Alevel qualifications and GCSE Mathematics
  • Be selfmotivated and hard working
  • Bring energy, enthusiasm and commitment
  • Have a logical, methodical approach to problem solving
  • Have good attention to detail
  • Be willing to learn
