The Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science is seeking to appoint a Subject Support Officer (SSO), who will provide individual, professional guidance to students allowing them to make an effective transition to higher education and to subsequently support them to succeed on their chosen degree pathway.

Fundamentally, the post holder will work closely with the academic course teams in helping to create a culture of engagement, through developing a positive course identity which in turn, leads to a strong sense of belonging for students.

In addition, the SSO will monitor student engagement, retention and performance, and will support students who are experiencing difficult personal circumstances by working closely with colleagues from specialist support services.


The post holder will need to be proactive, adaptable, and a resilient problem-solver, always seeking to enhance the student experience.

You will have a positive approach to your work, be a strong communicator, well organised, and committed, with the ability to work alone and as part of a team.

You will be expected to develop a strong awareness of the barriers facing individual students and will be able to work effectively with students from a wide range of backgrounds.
