Job title: Private Carer required (Camden Area, NW8)

Reporting to: Family member

in the Camden area.

Nature of the job role: To assist with a variety of tasks which will support the employer and their father to live an independent personal and social life.

Main Duties:

Personal duties:

⁃ Ensure a bath (eventually a shower once installed) is run minimum X3 a week and the patient is seen to bathe and wash his hair as and when needed.

⁃ Hands and feet have trimmed nails using special nail clippers for toes every 2 weeks.

⁃ Take out for beard and hair trim every 2-4 weeks depending on length.

⁃ Check dentures are on properly (will be fitted a set in due course)

Domestic duties:

⁃ Any dirty dishes cleaned and put away before leaving

⁃ Prepare meal or snack before bed if patient is still hungry to avoid eating toast throughout the night

⁃ Throw out household rubbish each night if any

Social Duties:

⁃ Encourage lots of engagement with brisk walk around the block, or a stop in to coffee shop for a hot drink and some card games

⁃ Encourage talking as much as possible by discussing family photos and photo albums, talking about past life and family, interests in cars and music

⁃ Arrange trips to take patient out once a week to a place with live music or a place suggested by family such as sports centre to play Badminton (family may at times attend in the beginning for comfort)

⁃ Establish a bedtime routine for patient to sleep in his bed and not the living room

⁃ Establish a way to cut down on patients smoking by keeping him occupied and busy with card games/talking

⁃ Practice with patient to read and write by giving him maths equations or written notes to read

⁃ Take patient out to the shops ot ATM to keep familiar with withdrawing money and using it to purchase any items of their choice (except for cigarettes ideally) and keep independence

⁃ Resistance training at home for 10mins a day on arms and legs (family will provide)

These duties may vary from day to day.

Any other reasonable duties that may be necessary.

Hours of work: 24.5 hours ( 8pm - 11:30pm )

Rate of Pay: £14ph

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential: driving license ideally, car and appropriate insurance.

2 years min of care for dementia patients. Patience and compassion.

Passion for cooking food.

First aid certification.

Clear spoken English, naturally gifted with people and bubbly/friendly demeanor.

Preferred: Understanding of Asian culture.

Love for music.

Tolerate of a smoker and skills to help limit smoking in this household with love and kindness but with ability to be politely firm when needed.

Family orientated

Happy to throw yourself into sports activities or family suggestions and keeping patient as comfortable as possible around care.

Hindi or Urdu as second language ideal but not essential.

Nursing qualification/background ideal.
