    Job Description

    As Technical Design Authority, the individual will be accountable to the Solution Engineering Manager & Project Design Authority for the design of their allocated sub system to deliver the functionality detailed within the SSDD and deliver on the overall customer requirements.

    Key Responsibilities:

    · Jointly with the PDA (Project Design Authority):

    o Assures sub system solution compliance with customer needs, product policy, Make Team Buy strategy and applicable legislation, rules and regulations.

    o Reviewing the technical risks and opportunities and the related risk mitigation plans through the project.

    o Managing sub system design changes and ensuring product configuration is maintained.

    o Ensures the feasibility of the Sub System Solution including:

    o The adequacy of the solution in term of architecture and technology maturity with respect to solution requirements,

    o The consistency of the solution with the product policy and make-team-buy strategy,

    o The feasibility with respect to cost, schedule, skills, resources and industrial organisation,

    o Checks that the Engineering Environment (process, practices and tools) for the Sub System Solution is consistent with the project needs and the applicable Engineering Environment rules.

    · Jointly with the SEM (Solution Engineering Manager):

    o Identifies and reviews the technical risks and opportunities and the related mitigation plans throughout the bid or project,

    o When used, establishes and maintains the Key Decisions tree and associated actions,

    o Organises when appropriate technical meetings and peer reviews in order to perform the Solution Element technical assessment and validation.

    · Responsible for the planning and execution of the defined scope of work for the Control Account, within the defined budget and Contractor Master Schedule.

    · Verification and control of costs charged to the Control Account including Actual Cost (AC).

    · Determination of work accomplished including Earned Value (EV) and monthly analysis and reporting to the DRESM Programme Manager of Control Account and supporting Work Package performance.

    · Flowing down Control Account work scope to Work Package Managers and supporting departments, and tasking contributors via the agreement of work packages.

    · Conducting and completing formal cost and schedule variance analysis, where CA performance is beyond thresholds set by the Thales Project Manager, and the development of recovery plans required to recover schedule or cost variances.

    Skills (Required):

    • Proven experience in engineering design and delivery of complex systems/projects
    • Ability to manage complex situations with sound judgement and the ability to balance conflicting technical challenges
    • Commercial and business awareness
    • Experience of working across the full life cycle
    • Electronic Warfare, RF or Sonar Systems Experience
    • Engineering or scientific Degree qualification (or equivalent)
