Job summary:

Football Governance
We lead Government's work on the future governance of
Football to ensure the game is on a sustainable footing. In 2021 the government commissioned a Fan-Led Review of Football Governance.

The purpose of this review was to explore ways of improving the sustainability of English football in order to protect these vital community assets.

The Review was published later that year and highlighted the need for reform.

The Government has since published a White Paper setting out a comprehensive plan to introduce an independent regulator for English football clubs.

The team is responsible for delivering the reforms set out in the White Paper, including setting up the football regulator.

We own a number of high profile and important relationships across government with key external bodies, including the FA, the Premier League, the English Football League and fan groups.

International Sport Policy
This is an exciting opportunity to take a lead role in shaping international sport policy.

The international sport team develops and coordinates UK international sport strategic interests, bringing together relevant stakeholders including our sport Arms Length Bodies (UK Sport, Sport England, Sports Ground Safety Authority and UK Anti-Doping); Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office and the Department for Business and Trade; and key sports stakeholders.

Our aims are to promote good governance, integrity and equality internationally in sport through UK leadership; leverage enhanced international diplomatic relationships through sport to deliver DCMS and wider Government priorities; and to support the economic sustainability of the sector through international relationships.

We have been at the forefront in the last year in developing a coalition of over 35 like-minded countries to develop an international sport response to the invasion of Ukraine.

EURO 2028 Team

The bid has full support from the UK Government and it would be the biggest sporting event our islands have jointly hosted.

This is a fantastic opportunity to play a key role on the project, should the bid be successful.

The post-holder will work alongside colleagues and partners - including UK Sport, the five Football Associations and across the governments of the UK and Ireland - to ensure UK Government delivers effectively against its priorities and responsibilities.

The role will focus on continuing our drive to ensure a collective international response to the Ukraine crisis in relation to international sport.

It will also focus on international sport diplomacy and relationships, and offers a broad insight into both sport policy and international Government relations.

The role will require the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced and challenging policy environment, alongside creative thinking in developing a new international sport strategy approach.
