  • We are the Environment Agency. We protect and improve the environment.
We look after water quality and quantity, promote sustainable land management and help protect and enhance wildlife habitats. We also work closely with businesses to help them comply with environmental regulations.

Area Integrated Environment Planning (IEP) are a multi-functional team that leads on Water Resources, Water Quality, Catchment and River Basin Management Planning.

We lead on improving water catchment understanding, identifying and prioritising actions to achieve environmental objectives and identifying opportunities for efficiencies through integration.

To do this we work with others to collect and interpret the right data and evidence in Greater Manchester Merseyside and Cheshire area.

We are looking for an enthusiastic planner to join our team who can interpret, share and map environmental data. Ideally you will understand the pressures acting on the water environment and be able to use excel and GIS.

Your background will enable you to quickly grow into a quickly become a reliable environment planning officer with skills to help us influence water quality planning and performance processes.


  • The team
  • The IEP team is predominantly a water planning team with specialists in water quality, water resources, river basin and catchment planning. A key team feature is their ability to work with other teams and external partners, bringing people together to agree clear direction and facilitate integrated action. The team provides high quality evidence for internal/external partners. The team comprises of experts at the heart of environmental decision making, technically adept; focussed on driving collective delivery.


  • Experience/skills required

  • We are seeking an individual with a degree (or equivalent qualification) in a relevant environmental discipline. This will be coupled with knowledge and understanding that will give you a platform to quickly become an effective environment planning officer, who supports a broad range of catchment planning processes.
From your experience to date you will be able to demonstrate most of the following:

  • experience of interpreting environmental evidence using a range of tools
- experience of sharing and communicating environmental evidence using a range of tools
- being proactive, self-motivated and a confident communicator
- working as part of a team sharing, knowledge, skills and experience to affect the achievement of outcomes.
- managing multiple priorities and competing demands
- working & communicating with a range of customers and partners
