    Job summary

    The post holder will provide high quality care and interventions to children and young people in a variety of settings including residential homes, emergency accommodation, family home and foster placements, which will contribute to the protection, safeguarding and promotion of the education, health and well-being of children and young people.

    This role is specifically to work within our emergency response team; therefore the post holder will need to work in a flexible way, which will include working across services, often supporting children in crisis.

    Main duties of the job

    You should have:-

    Experience of working in a service or provision designed to support children and young people with complex needs, such as difficulties in regulating their emotions and behaviours due to past experiences.

    Experience of working directly with children and families in a multi-agency setting and knowledge of the roles of other agencies and professionals

    Knowledge of child development and the impact of early childhood traumaDate

    Knowledge and experience of developing, implementing, and reviewing individual programmes of care.

    Knowledge of Childrens Homes Regulations and Safeguarding frameworks

    Practical knowledge of working / dealing with difficult situations in a diplomatic, sensitive and caring professional manner and knowledge of professional boundaries and safe working practices which contribute to managing risk.

    ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY

    Are you an experienced, solution oriented, systemicworking, child focused practitioner, keen to work alongside partners andparticularly our children and young people to deliver a new model ofresidential intervention in Rotherham? This post could be for you

    The posts will play a key role in the delivery of thevision we have around our edge of care and residential service. We are lookingfor practitioners who are skilled in working with children and their familiesin emergency situations, where an entry into care looks like the next step. Theemergency residential settings and staffing are focused on working alongside the Team around the childin a proactive way and playing a key role in intensive support packages as partof the residential team and or in the community with families. We are seekingdynamic, solution focused practitioners, who enjoy working with children andtheir families to achieve success and who want to work alongside our innovativeedge of care model.

    Rotherham Council has made a strategic decision to make asignificant investment in children's residential services. This will ensuremore of our looked after children are placed in Rotherham, close to their localcommunities, family and schools.

    We are using current best practice and evidence-basedmodels to develop a range of new children`s homes including 2 and 4 bed EBD,emergency accommodation and solo provision for some of our most complexchildren and young people.

    We are particularly looking for practitioners who haveprevious experience of working in specialist solo provision, mental healthresidential settings, crisis accommodation and with children and young peoplewith sensory, ASD, mental health needs and who have suffered significant trauma.For the emergency settings we are looking for practitioners who worksystemically and have experience of working with the whole family approach.

    This new residential provision will be part of aChildren and Young People Service judged as `Good` by Ofsted in August 2022 andbuild on practice from our short break residential home provision.

    Children's Residential Practitioners in Rotherham will:

    Promote, safeguard and protect the welfare of looked afterchildren across the borough

    Key work individual children and young people, buildingeffective relationships, being a positive role model and providing consistencyof support

    Apply agreed evidence based therapeutic and behaviouralmanagement approaches and practice models

    Provide opportunities for children and young people toinfluence the decisions that affect them and the service they receive

    Work systemically and as part of team to ensure a joined-upservice centred on the child

    Engage in the running of the home including activities,meals, personal care, recording, report writing and administration ofmedication in line with the councils policy

    Undertake staff training, attend staff meetings and formalsupervision sessions

    Provide and promote a safe, stimulating and nurturingphysical environment

    Hold a full valid UK driving licence.

    Ability to transport children and young people to and from school/activities

    Until 31st March 2026 employees paid at Band D and above are subject to a temporary pay reduction of spread out by means of a monthly deduction from each pay period over the full financial year.     Essential

  • Experience in the engagement of adults/and/or children/families (some of whom are resistant
