    Job summary

    The Commission on Human Medicines (CHM) is looking to appoint an expert to the Medicines for Women's Health Expert Advisory Group.

    The Medicines for Women's Health is an Expert Advisory Group of the Commission on Human Medicines which advises the Licensing Authority (Health Ministers) on the safety, quality and efficacy of medicines for human use and to promote the collection and investigation of adverse drug reactions. The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency seeks independent advice from the CHM.

    The MWHEAG remit covers applications for new medicines and safety issues arising with medicines which are already in clinical use for the following: contraception assisted reproduction obstetrics and gynaecology postmenopausal hormone replacement osteoporosis endocrinology (for men or women) safety of use of medicines during pregnancy.

    Main duties of the job

    We are looking for an experienced Clinician who can provide their specialisms perspective on relevant UK clinical practice and medicine-related matters in the following:

    In the public interest, ministers need the advice they receive on matters relating to the regulation of medicines and medical devices to be impartial. They also need to be able to get advice from a wide range of highly-skilled professionals who are senior and well regarded in their respective fields and from a range of appointed lay representatives.

    A number of independent advisory committees have been established to provide this advice. These committees can also establish working groups to address specific problems.

    The Medicines for Women's Health Expert Advisory Group advise the CHM on the safety and efficacy of medicines related to endocrinology and women's reproductive health from menarche to menopause and conditions related to the menopause, such as osteoporosis. The medicines covered will include medicines for contraception; assisted reproduction; obstetrics and gynaecology; menopause; osteoporosis; endocrinology (for men or women); and safety of use of medicines during pregnancy.

    Essential

  • The Member must be able to demonstrate the qualities, skills and experience to meet all the essential criteria for appointment.
  • experience as an Obstetrician, Obstetric Physician or Gynaecologist
  • recognised expertise in their field
  • be skilled communicators
  • be able to assimilate complex scientific information at short notice;
  • be able and prepared to contribute actively to wider aspects of the work of the Medicines for Womens Health Expert Advisory Group beyond their own specialism;
  • possess or prepared to develop a working knowledge and understanding of the UK medicines regulations framework and procedures;
  • maintain strict confidentiality with respect to the work of the EAG;
  • be willing to declare conflicts of interest;
  • be committed to the values of selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, professionalism, impartiality and consistency.
