    Overview

    The College of Medicine and Health is one of three colleges at Bangor University. The College, through the University, is formally linked to the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board enabling an integrated approach to developing research, training, medical and healthcare education that serves the needs of North Wales and beyond.

    The Project

    The School of Health Sciences is the University's main focus for activities that support the healthcare professional workforce. The School Mission Statement reflects our aims to champion and promote excellent medical, health and social care science, research, scholarship, teaching and learning, quality and values with people who use services, practitioners, and stakeholders.

    To promote language and cultural competence relevant to local, national and international partners and to provide an inclusive culture and environment for staff and students within the School.

    Bangor's mission is for a research-led University of and for North Wales, providing transformative learning experiences and nurturing a positive impact on society regionally, nationally, and internationally (Strategy Across the University, research and teaching are closely inter-linked: almost all research academics teach, ensuring that our students benefit from the knowledge created by our research. In REF2021, 40% of our research is considered 4* world-leading and 45% is 3* or internationally excellent. 77% of Bangor's research was scored as 4* or 3* in the last REF in 2014. In REF2021 it has increased to 85%. In REF2021, Bangor is 41st for the proportion of our research environment judged to be world-leading and 46th (out of 129 - excluding six single-subject institutions) in the sector for research.

    Purpose of the Job

    The delivery of post-graduate education across the School's portfolio including the planning, design, delivery and evaluation.

    Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Work with Postgraduate Directors for Taught and Research programmes and programme leads to support the delivery of PG education.
  • Demonstrate leadership through module leadership as required.
  • Contribute to the leadership, management and professional development of the postgraduate team.
  • Contribute to the development of the School and University in line with the strategic and operational objectives.
  • Undertake teaching into areas of health sciences, public health, health promotion and, leadership and management and research methodology.
  • Undertake module lead responsibilities in areas of health sciences, public health, health promotion and, leadership and management and research methodology.
  • Review ethical aspects of research proposals and protocols, for internal review.
  • Work with IT and colleagues to set-up and deliver innovative teaching methodologies.
  • Supervise level 7/8 students and support with project specific tasks.
  • Assist programme leads and Directors in the preparation of data for quality assurance purposes.
  • Assist programme leads and Directors in the preparation of reports as required to adhere to University policies and procedures.
  • Promote the work of the School of Health Sciences by supporting marketing and recruitment activities, admissions and providing students with pastoral support.
  • Undertake other duties as requested by the Head of School.
  • Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the security of research data obtained and observe confidentiality at all times regarding participants and their involvement.
  • Ensuring compliance with research and clinical governance guidelines, data protection and ethical requirements.
  • The post holder will be expected to participate in performance review and developmental activities.
  • The post holder will be expected to comply with the University's equality policies and statements, Dignity at Work and Study Policy and the University's Welsh Language Scheme.

    Qualifications/Training

    Essential:

  • Degree in a relevant subject area or an allied subject.
  • Desirable:

  • Masters or PhD in health sciences, leadership and management or an allied subject.
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Higher Education (PGCertHE) or be close to the completion OR Recognised by the HEA as a Fellow / Recognised by Advance HE as a Fellow against Descriptor 2 of the UKPSF
  • Experience/Knowledge

    Essential:

  • Experience working as an academic in the field of health sciences, public health, health promotion.
  • Evidence of teaching in clinical or academic settings.
  • Desirable:

  • Experience of module development and delivery in higher education.
  • Experience of supervising undergraduate and postgraduate projects.
  • A sound knowledge of contemporary policy and practice in health sciences, public health, health promotion.

  • Skills/Abilities

    Essential:

  • Demonstrate the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and on own initiative.
  • Excellent verbal and written skills.
  • Demonstrable computer skills, including MS Office, PowerPoint and Excel. This could also include use of Blackboard and other on-line learning platforms.

  • Capability to develop and manage projects, and to disseminate results through presentation at relevant conferences, publication in relevant journals, social and other media.
