Why is this role crucial for Pogust Goodhead?
We are currently litigating a substantial number of cases.

Our Associates provide support to the Senior Associates and Partners to implement various legal strategies and ensure that we have day-to-day control of our documentation.

This role provides the opportunity to help manage some of the high-profile cases we currently oversee.


Requirements:


Role responsibilities and core competencies
To assist the Legal Team in all aspects of civil litigation, with a focus on Scottish clinical negligence cases


This will mainly include:

  • Working with the team on large, complex and fast paced contentious cases, with a focus on clinical negligence cases;
  • Taking initial instructions from partners and senior associates and delegating to trainees and paralegal when appropriate;
  • Taking precognitions; supporting our clients and conducting client meetings; instructing expert witnesses and counsel;
  • Conducting research, drafting and reviewing of documentation;
  • Managing meetings effectively by setting clear agendas;
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with external counsel, expert witnesses, financial partners and other external parties;
  • Supervising Trainees and Paralegals;
  • Managing legal documentation and demonstrate effective case management;
  • Assisting the firm in achieving its professional objectives;
  • Contributing to Pogust Goodhead's business development, including raising the firm's profile by partaking in marketing activities and contributing to the firm's publication.

What you'll bring to Pogust Goodhead

Essential

  • NQ 5PQE or equivalent with the majority of your experience gained in a Scottish litigation practice;
  • Strong technical skills with experience in Scottish litigation, preferably with experience in clinical negligence, personal injury or consumer/medical product liability fields
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to understand the clients' needs and an ability to adopt the bestcase strategy
  • Great attention to detail and accuracy to produce work which is consistently of a high standard
  • Very strong organisational skills, file management and time/record keeping
  • Confident communicator able to work calmly under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal skills demonstrated by previous collaborative work with external and internal parties
  • A demonstrably flexible approach to work to ensure client deadlines are met and clients are communicated with efficiently
  • Empathy and passion for the clients we represent
  • Strong academic background

Desirable

  • Experience in pursuer clinical negligence/personal injury claims;
  • Experience in probono or social justice / human rights work
