    Brighton and Hove Healthy Child Programme have a vacancy for a Band 5 School Staff Nurse to work 22.50 hours per week, term time only, across the Brighton & Hove area.We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated child or adult Registered Nurse to work in our small and friendly service. We are committed to providing a high quality, accessible health service to children, young people and families, in partnership with other agencies and service providers.

    Main duties of the job

    You will need excellent communication and organisational skills and the ability to use different communication methods. You will work as part of the team but will also need to use your time management skills to deliver care to your own caseload. Confident IT skills are also important for the role. In return, the post offers a friendly and supportive team with excellent learning and development opportunities and a stimulating working environment.As a school staff nurse, you will be managing a caseload of primary schools providing agreed elements of the Healthy Child Programme. You will deliver interventions to support children and families with specific health concerns as well as making referrals to other services. You will also support children and families with additional vulnerabilities such as with safeguarding concerns.

    Job responsibilities

    The post holder will work within a skill mixed team to promote the health and wellbeing of children and their families. The post holder will provide knowledge and advice; assessing care needs to provide a child centred, inclusive, holistic and accessible Healthy Child Programme.

    The School Staff Nurse will establish links with communities, schools, Primary Care Colleagues and the wider Childrens workforce to develop, implement and evaluate programmes of care and public health developments in the community, liaising and collaborating with other agencies as required.

    To promote the physical and emotional well-being of children, supporting them to establish good health now and in the future and promote early intervention, health promotion, advocacy, empowerment, social inclusion and the reduction of health inequalities.

    Make referrals as appropriate, to enable access to relevant professionals and support children and young people to reach their personal and educational potential.

    Person Specification Qualifications

    • Registered nurse, child or adult
    • Child protection module
    • Practice supervisor/assessor

    Skills

    • Excellent IT and literacy skills
    • Ability to manage own caseload
    • Motivated to work with children and families within a community setting
    • Able to demonstrate partnership working

    Experience

    • Motivated to develop public health nursing skills
