    Job summary

    This is an exciting opportunity for a Ward Receptionist to join a diverse and motivated team that are dedicated to the development of skills and the delivery of high quality safe care. The post is on the Renal Dialysis Unit at the City Hospital, we have 40 stations over two units for patients to dialyse.

    As the Ward Receptionist, you will often be the first point of contact for patients and visitors when entering the unit so a friendly, welcoming smile and excellent communication skills are essential.

    Tasks will include but not be limited to fulfilling all necessary reception, clerical, administrative and general tasks required to facilitate and record patient information using technology systems. Staff are expected to be courteous and considerate at all times and have excellent customer care.

    Job responsibilities

    Basic computer skills will be needed and an understanding of Microsoft word and excel. Basic typing skills is a necessity preferably at RSA level 2. NUH programmes such as Medway, Patient Transport and Notis would be an advantage.

    Person Specification

    Training & Qualifications

    Essential

  • Secondary school standard of education in basic numeracy and literacy. Evidence of personal development in previous employment.
  • Desirable

  • Competent at using Care Flow System, Nationally recognised qualification in basic literacy an numeracy keyboard skills
  • Experience

    Essential

  • Relevant work experience at least 1 Year
  • Desirable

  • Previous Employment within a Health field / or working within a team. Clerical experience.
  • Communication and Relationship Skills

    Essential

  • Able to produce short accurate written messages and effectively communicate with patient, visitors and all levels of staff in a clear articulate way. Good telephone manner. Friendly and approachable.
  • Analytical and Judgement skills

    Essential

  • Judgement of when to refer issues to relevant senior staff.
  • Desirable

  • Methodical. Good time management skills
  • Planning and organisation skills
