As a School Health Assistant (SHA) you will work within the School Nursing Service as part of a skill mix team.
SHA's support the delivery of integrated, evidence-based services for children and their families, with a focus on prevention, promotion, and early intervention.
The role is based in a variety of localities across BNSSG all working alongside School Nursing Teams and other members of the Public Health Nursing Service.
You will deliver Sirona's Public Health Nursing Service vision engaging with transformation programmes to support change.You will be required to work in partnership with children, young people, families, and schools to deliver a variety of evidence-based interventions that promote the health of children aged 5 to 19.
You will work as part of a team and may work alone with regular supervision, and there will be times when you may access additional support or provide additional support to colleagues.
The School Nursing service is an innovative and progressive service, and this role requires a flexible, warm and reflective practitioner committed to ongoing development of their skills and knowledge in order to maintain the excellent standards of the service.
This involves arranging dates with schools, completing the measuring of children's height and weight and subsequent follow up in line with the national programme.
This is with support and supervision from service leads.
To carry out vision screening as per local guidance to include arranging dates with schools, completing the screen, capturing data, and managing any subsequent referrals and follow up.
To participate in the planning, organisation, delivery, and evaluation of health promotion activities that includes any agreed as part of the local healthy weight pilots.
To adopt a partnership approach with children, young people and families utilising a person centred, psycho-social model of support and use evidence-based information to inform their practice utilising a strength-based approach.
To be responsible for accurate and contemporaneous record keeping in line with local and national guidelines and policy.
To follow agreed processes to ensure that work is focussed and time limited and outcomes are shared with the School Nurse Associates, School Nurses, Clinical and Locality leads as appropriate.
To be responsible for planning, delivering, and recording your allocated work and liaising with School Nurse Associates (SNA) School Nurses and other colleagues

We have 2 part time roles available, 18.75 hours per week in South Bristol & 26 hours per week in North Bristol.
