    Job Description

    Legal & General Capital (LGC) is the principal investment division of Legal & General (L&G) and is growing at pace, having doubled operating profits over the last 5 years to become L&G's second largest divisional profit contributor. LGC focuses its investments on addressing long-term trends for the benefit of the Group and society with sector teams in Specialist Commercial Real Estate, Clean Energy, Residential Property, Digital Infrastructure and GP Investing.

    A central pillar of LGC's growth strategy is building exposure to Alternative investments, with the ambition to double its third-party assets under management (AUM) in Alternatives in the next 3 years. LGC's GP (General Partner) Investing team have been providing expertise and capital to high growth private markets asset managers over the past decade, through the acquisition of significant minority ownership stakes in such managers. The team manages a portfolio of existing investments and has a mandate to grow this portfolio further with GP investments forming an important element in the realisation of LGC's third party AUM ambitions.

    The GP Investing team provides significant career development opportunities, with team members gaining exposure to a breadth of private markets asset classes, investment managers, geographies and sectors. In this role you will undertake commercial and financial analysis and diligence for new investments undertaken by the GP Investing team, as well as supporting the management of existing GP investments. You will build and evaluate investment models, support the preparation of Investment Committee papers for investments and work closely with stakeholders across LGC and the wider group.

    Transaction Execution
  • Support the underwriting of new GP investments from origination to completion, including contributing to the preparation of memorandums for internal investment committees
  • Participate in and support due diligence activities and coordinate workstreams
  • Collaborate with other LGC teams (e.g. Finance, Legal, Risk) to develop their understanding of transactions and address questions prior to investment
    Financial Modelling
  • Build, review and interrogate financial models as part of investment analysis; work with the LGC Finance team to ensure information is accurately reflected for internal financial reporting
  • Use commercial acumen to stress test financial model outputs in order to illustrate the impact of investment risks and opportunities
    Investment management support
  • Drives production of management information and ad-hoc analysis
  • Coordinates with various stakeholders across LGC to monitor existing GP investments
  • Support the monitoring of investment performance, reviewing board materials and processing shareholder approval requests for existing GP investments
    Market research
  • Conduct research on private markets asset managers, asset classes and strategies
  • Apply research findings in support of the GP Investing team's strategy
  • Support business development initiatives, including ad hoc research and preparation of analysis
    Stakeholder Management
  • Engage with various internal teams including Financial, Legal, Risk, Actuarial and Tax as well as senior stakeholders in LGC and other L&G divisions (e.g. LGIM, LGRI)
    Qualifications
  • 2.1 degree or equivalent qualification or experience
  • Relevant transactional experience, from investment banking advisory, principal investing, or corporate development roles
  • First-hand experience and knowledge of private markets asset classes
  • Foundational modelling skills with a proven ability to run complex models at a high level of accuracy
  • Strong interpersonal skills; positive attitude; confident communicator and a self-starter
  • Ability to work with a range of internal stakeholders
  • Intellectually curious, capable of thinking critically and developing conclusions from independent research
  • Collaborative mindset, able to contribute and work effectively as part of a team
