25 hours per week (flexible working hour options)

Home based with the need to travel to Peterborough for team meetings and training

We currently have an exciting opportunity which has become available within our well-established Payroll Team, providing payroll services to Peterborough City Council.

We would consider both full time and part time applicants for this payroll Officer role.

The successful applicant will need the ability to provide an accurate, effective, transactional processing service, administering payroll and pension data.

The payroll team have the flexibility to work agile, between the office and home environment.


Duties will include:


  • Processing high volume Monthly payroll from start to finish.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fastpaced environment.
  • Checking accuracy of documents, including processing starters, leavers, and post changes.
  • Checking payroll data is correct.
  • Proactively keeping up with payroll legislation.
  • Knowledge of statutory payments. SPP, SMP, SAP etc.
  • Understanding of pension contributions and Autoenrolment.
  • Liaising with HMRC and other government bodies.
  • Dealing with payroll queries effectively.

What you'll need to do the role:

Ideally, we are looking for an individual with payroll experience, however, we are willing to consider applicants without payroll experience who can be trained.

You must be able to work in a high-pressure environment and be able to self-motivate and work productively from home.


To be successful in the role you will naturally hold strong attention to detail, particularly when working to tight deadlines.

You will need to be able to follow agreed processes and be able to demonstrate strong IT and communication skills along with the ability to prioritise your workload.

Salary from £22,000

up to 6% contributory pension scheme.
