About The Role:

We are seeking a Health & Safety Forum member for a four-year term, from the Swim England membership.


The Forum is part of our formal governance structure, reporting into the Sport Operations Committee which reports directly to the Swim England Board.

The responsibilities of the Health and Safety Forum are to:

  • Prepare, or to approve the content of, all Swim England's published materials on safety.
  • Consider and advise whether an activity outside the normal scope of swimming club activities should be identified as having an enhanced risk of death and/or injury and whether it should be included or excluded from the normal insurance cover and to issue guidelines on that basis.
  • Provide health and safety information on best practice.
  • Provide information and advice on health and safety issues.
  • Review identified risks and advise the risk owner.
  • Contribute to the Annual Report, including an update on its activities.
  • Monitor emerging issues and trends to the best its ability.
  • Consider any matter as referred to it by the Board of Directors and/or the Sport Operations Committee.
  • Assess known risks and provide relevant guidance and advice.
  • Task relevant Swim England teams/team members with addressing health and safety matters and review and approve the resulting work.
  • Draw together specialist working parties to consider specific issues and provide solutions.
The role is voluntary with expenses reimbursed according to prescribed Swim England's policies.


The minimum time commitment is one day per quarter including attendance at meetings which take place at least twice per annum.

About You:


We are looking to engage a volunteer who has:

  • Experience of working within health & safety
  • Applicants who bring knowledge and skills from other sectors to share best practice and continuously improve our relevance and reach would be welcomed.


Previous experience of a similar role on a committee or part of a working group is not essential but would be desirable.
