    Company Overview

    Charles Brand Ltd is part of the Lagan Specialist Contracting Group (£200m turnover business) providing specialist contracting services across the globe. From bespoke civil engineering and M&E projects to plant hire and complex airport projects.

    Originated in 1829 Charles Brand had a strong track record in Tunnelling, Railway, Marine and Civils sectors having completed projects at London Underground, Ben Crom Dam at Silent Valley, M1 Motorway at Grosvenor Road and multiple Flood Defence Schemes, Ports and Water Treatment Plants creating a strong brand in the UK, Ireland and Internationally.

    Charles Brand are currently working on a range of exciting projects, including fibre installation across GB within our telecommunications division and various civil engineering projects within our civils division. We have recently been awarded a NI Water IF106 Framework and the Translink FW073 Framework.

    Role Overview

    As Project Manager you will be responsible in managing the production of the required deliverables, planning and monitoring of the project. You will take the lead in ensuring day-to-day works are completed whilst ensuring compliance is met to the management of commercial and public sector requirements.

    The role includes setting and managing client expectations, developing a detailed project plan, defining the scope of the project, understanding the project risks and assigning team members to specific tasks.

    What you'll do

    • Establish the main objectives of the project, its purpose, and its scope.
    • Identify key internal and external stakeholders, discuss shared expectations, and gain the required authorization necessary to move a project forward.
    • Oversee the scope, cost, timelines, risk, quality issues, and communications.
    • Outline key deliverables and milestones and identify the tasks that must be completed to complete each.
    • Assign and delegate any works, determine the resource requirements, and gain approval for additional resource from the Operations Manager.
    • Ensure that assigned projects are completed as scheduled.


    The project manager will also typically:

    • Protect the team from distractions.
    • Facilitate issue resolution.
    • Lead the team in working through project changes.
    • Review the required deliverables and liaise with the Operations Managers.
    • Monitor the overall progress of all assigned projects with regular updates across all teams and report to the Operations Manager & client.
    • Manage the project's budget.
    • Ensure that key milestones are reached.
    • Compare actual performance against planned/scheduled performance.


    General tasks include:

    • Communication with Build/operations team on progress and changes.
    • Communication with client(s) and other stakeholders, whilst providing regular updates on progress.
    • Programme Issue Identification and resolution.
    • Overseeing high volume of existing/new network build including regular communication with the Build/Operations over all disciplines.
    • Produce associated reports for the head of operations to ensure that CB fulfils its obligations to the project.
    • DFE Costs Analysis.


    During the close of a project, you will ensure: -

    • To work with the client to get formal sign-off that the project is complete.
    • Project manage any resources (budget or personnel) who are no longer needed for the project.
    • Review the work of the client to close off contracts and liaise with commercial and accounts team to clear all payments.
    • Archive project files for future reference and use.
    • Complete Audits in-line with KPI's set as per Contract.


    Essential:

    • The ideal person will come from a utilities or construction background with experience in infrastructure related projects.
    • Leadership ability and experience to lead a large programme team.
    • Ability to use qualitative and quantitative analytical skills to meet objectives, working independently with minimal guidance and supervision.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with senior managers and programme team contacts, both internal and the client.
    • Strong written and communication skills with a high level of proficiency with MS Office, MS SharePoint, MS Teams
    • Considerable experience in project/programme management in a client facing project/programme.
    • Proven track record of developing and delivering robust reporting and evidence tracking for programme deliverables and costs.
    • Proven track record of managing risks and issues whilst delivering projects to time, cost and quality.
    • Full UK driving licence.
    • Experience of working in/designing around the Openreach network and a strong knowledge of PIA is desirable.
    • PRINCE2 Registered Practitioner / PMI / PMP / CAPM or similar qualification
    • GIS/ AutoCAD knowledge or similar system knowledge such as deponet, Apex.
    • Hold a current H&S Qualification to include Nebosh, IOSH or similar.
    • Hold a CSR / CSCS or similar site card.
    • NRSWA / Street works qualified.
    • Have completed a S.L.G Traffic Management Basic course.


    Desirable:

    • Experience in the telecoms, utilities or civils industry would be advantageous.
    • Leadership certification would also be desirable but not essential.
