At Oru, we bring coworking, wellbeing, food and events together, providing extraordinarily designed spaces that attract individuals and organisations who 'care', combining 'profit' with 'purpose'.

We launched in 2019 with our first site in East Dulwich and since then we have grown to a team of 40.

This year is huge for Oru with the launch of our Sutton site and the team is expected to grow to over 140 in time.

We now need a first-class People Manager to support us on the next stage of our journey.

We are looking for a friendly and dedicated team player to join our rapidly expanding team at Oru as a Head Barista across our two sites in East Dulwich and Sutton.


Job Overview


This is an exciting role at Oru and a great opportunity for the right person to develop alongside the business as we have exciting growth plans both at our East Dulwich location and our new Sutton site.

We are looking for someone who embraces the evolving opportunities of the larger business be it co-working, wellness or events as we would love to see the people of Oru grow with us as a business into roles that suit their skills.


The Head Barista is responsible for cultivating an exciting and high quality specialty coffee programme, adhering to our high standards and playing their part in ensuring we work in line with food hygiene legislation and good working practices.

They work alongside a fantastic team of passionate people both front and back of house looking to create something really special with a focus on exceptional, but relaxed, customer service.

We would expect you to be able to split your time equally between the two sites.


Responsibilities and Duties

  • Leading the coffee & beverage programme across our two sites ensuring the following:
  • Consistency of product.
  • Training the barista team in coffee skills and technique.
  • Training the wider hospitality team on guest filters and retail items.
  • Providing cupping/tasting sessions for the team at appropriate intervals throughout the year.
  • Upkeep and maintenance of equipment, identifying areas for improvement.
  • Innovating and implementing new, seasonal drinks for the menu.
  • Setting recipes for new filters/espressos and adjusting for taste, communicating these with the barista team.
  • Liaising with our coffee/drinks suppliers and maintaining positive business relationships
  • Ordering coffee/soft beverage stock for both sites, ensuring adequate par levels are maintained.
  • Motivating their team and colleagues, encouraging a passion for coffee, drinks, and exceptional customer service.
  • Work with the management team carrying out tasks independently and collaborating on larger projects.
  • Preparing and serving coffee (& other beverages) to a high standard.
  • Provide exemplary customer service working to get to know regular customers and brighten up their day.
  • Operating the till and taking customer orders.
  • Ensuring the working environment is always clean and tidy.
  • Work at all times in accordance with current food safety legislation and safe working practices including HACCP and inhouse allergen procedures.
  • Monitor portion and waste control.
  • Monitor ingredient & prep levels throughout service.
  • Ensure daily and weekly cleaning checklists are completed.
  • Contribute to a positive working environment by maintaining good working relationships with colleagues.
  • Attend and contribute to team meetings.

  • Exemplary barista skills including latte art and a great knowledge of coffee from production to taste to techniques.
  • Spoken and written English at a B2 level or above.
  • Comfortable speaking with people/ customers
  • Basic numeracy skills
  • Computer literacy
  • A passion for coffee, food and hospitality
  • Knowledge and understanding of the industry
  • Knowledge and understanding of HACCP & food safety regulations.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a closeknit team
  • At least 3 years as a Barista and extended Barista training/ knowledge
  • Previous experience as a Head Barista

  • From £13ph + service
