Description

Research, monitor and input Fund and Discretionary Fund Manager (DFM) information to ensure that our database of financial products, propositions, funds and portfolios is always up to date and accurate.

For this particular role, the specified area is Funds & DFMs, which covers various fund types including OEICs / Unit Trusts, Life funds, Pension funds, ETFs, Investment Trusts and DFMs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain general knowledge of the financial services industry as a whole (including how products, propositions and funds are developed and distributed). Develop and maintain a detailed knowledge of funds and DFMs. Keep uptodate with market developmentsand share knowledge effectively with colleagues.
  • Research Fund and DFM information using the internet, industry press, fund manager documentation, telephone and/or occasional facetoface contact with fund management firms, DFMs, etc.
  • Understand and interpret fund and DFM information, identify differences from currently held data and update the database with new information ensuring that team targets are met in terms of the timeliness and accuracy of information.
  • Conduct regular data audits to ensure the database is accurate and up to date.
  • Build effective working relationships with fund management firms & DFMs to facilitate the acquisition of accurate and up to date information. Attend occasional meetings with Fund Managers & DFMs, where requested, to communicate how we use their data.
  • Identify newsworthy information and communicate to relevant individuals within the company.
  • Conduct research to support the work of the Insight & Consulting team in delivering publications, ratings and consultancy.
  • Develop and maintain knowledge of the products and services and how they can deliver high levels of value to our clients. Understand how the data collected for funds and DFMs is typically used within those products and services.
  • Respond effectively to queries from colleagues across the business regarding Funds & DFMs data.
  • Undertake research or data related projects as required.
Job Requirements
Essential at Recruitment Desirable (could be developed in role)
Qualifications & Training - Good general education to A level or equivalent - Degree qualified, or able to demonstrate equivalent ability through experience

  • Financial services qualifications from relevant industry bodies e.g. CISI, CII
Knowledge - Good general awareness of financial products and the UK financial services industry, with the interest and willingness to learn more

  • Good knowledge of all of the listed fund types / DFMs
  • Detailed knowledge of funds which may include an understanding of the different asset classes, the markets, investment analysis, portfolio management, associated risks and performance measurement
  • Good knowledge of pensions & investments products
  • Awareness of Defaqto and our products and services
  • Good knowledge of other areas of financial services, e.g. banking, general insurance, life & protection, etc.
  • Good knowledge of how funds & DFMs link to pension & investment products


  • Skills

  • At least intermediate knowledge of Excel, Word and Outlook
  • Strong critical thinking, analysis skills and attention to detail
  • Fast and accurate data entry skills
  • Able to problem solve quickly and logically
  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to plan and prioritise own workload to meet deadlines
  • Good verbal communication skills, including a good telephone manner and the ability to persuade others
  • Good written communication skills
  • Professional use of English in the workplace
  • Workable understanding of VBA
  • Expert knowledge of Excel
  • Good relationship building skills, both facetoface and over the telephone
Experience - Working within a team environment

  • Learning and working with defined procedures and processes
  • Working for a Paraplanner, Financial adviser, fund manager or DFM
  • Working within the financial services industry in a role relevant to funds, ideally for at least 3 years
  • Working with databases of information
  • Analysing data or conducting research
  • Building relationships with both internal and external contacts
