Reporting to the Deputy Manager, the Operative assistant is responsible for assisting of service delivery, provision of a food and beverage service in accordance with health and safety requirements, Patient Led Assessments of the Care Environment (PLACE)and OCS policies and procedures where needed/trained.

The Operative will also assist in the NHSCOS (NHS Cleaning of Standards) requirements and any ad hoc job-related cleaning tasks such as deep cleans and covering of current personnel.

The Operative will be multi skilled in both Catering and Domestic services to assist on each division across the estate.

Duties include, but are not limited to, create, and maintain discipline on site, to ensure compliance with contractual terms within set food preparation, NHSCOS, cooking, serving and presentation; including preparation and delivery of beverages and foods tothe wards, cleaning of crockery, cutlery, and kitchen equipment; including cleaning of ward kitchen(s), rotation of stock, maintenance of food hygiene regulations and cash handling where on site,
You will undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by your manager.
Aim to continuously improve the service delivery to the client & OCS.


Main Duties:


  • Prepare all food/beverages as necessary in accordance with menus, portion control and agreed standards.
  • Ensure that due diligence records are completed and maintained.
  • Adhere to company policy of dealing with customer comments.
  • Check on all wards during service, be present during core business hours.
  • To comply with company and client policies and procedures.
  • Ensure the customers always receive a prompt and courteous service.
  • Ensure personal appearance, including uniform are always of the highest standards in line with company.
  • Ensure organisation health and safety policies and procedures and all relevant food safety legislation is complied with
  • Undertake and record temperature checks and ensure high standards of food hygiene are maintained.
  • Ensure that the correct cycle of delivery, storage, stock rotation and display is followed including crockery and cutlery.

To be successful in the role, you will need:
Previous catering experience in a similar role, preferably working in a large site or multi-site environment with some customer focus is desirable, however full training will be given
No formal qualification is required as full training will be provided, however desirable qualifications would be as follows:
Basic Food Hygiene Certificate A catering qualification such as:

  • NVQ Level
  • COSHH.
  • Food Safety Level 2
