Description
Pending Royal College Approval.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a part time Inpatient Consultant role for the neuropsychiatry/ FND pathway at the Lishman Unit, the specialist neuropsychiatry inpatient unit at South London and Maudsley NHS Foundation Trust.

This role will be 5 sessions working alongside the existing consultant on the unit who will retain primary responsibility for patients on the brain injury pathway.

There will be opportunities for joint working across the pathway, and potential future developments may extend this.

The service has two pathways in the unit for adults aged 18 or over: a Level 1c Neurorehabilitation Unit for Acquired Brain Injury; and neuropsychiatry inpatients, predominantly patients with functional neurological disorder.

The service accepts tertiary level patients with neuropsychiatric conditions with complex cognitive, behavioural or psychiatric problems beyond the scope of their local and district rehabilitation teams, or community psychiatric services.

The Lishman unit consultant has a key role in providing clinical leadership with senior decision making on a daily basis to contribute towards the MDT management of individual patients' rehabilitation needs.

The ward is currently a 15 bedded unit, typically with eight beds for the brain injury pathway, and seven beds for the neuropsychiatry pathway.

There is scope to increase to 18 beds following the transition back to the Maudsley Hospital.

The consultant provides clinical supervision for a core trainee, and is encouraged to provide educational supervision to a small number of trainees across the trust.

The post holder would be expected to engage on a regional (London) and national level with regard to the development of neurorehabilitation services throughout the country.
