- Degree in mental health and social care or equivalent: 1st Level Registration (NMC,HPC)

Job summary
We have an exciting opportunity within our Acute Inpatient Older Adult Mental Health Service for a Ward Manager to cover maternity leave. We are looking for an experienced and passionate clinician who can lead creatively, inspiring others, providing guidance, nurturing talent and most importantly be committed to continuous improvement and development of the patient pathway.
Brant Ward is an 18 bedded inpatient mental health ward supporting older adults, 65 and over, who present with mental illness. As Ward Manager you will be responsible for managing the ward to promote positive patient and staff experience, leading on the delivery of excellent nursing care. The role requires close working relationships as part of the Multi-disciplinary Team including the Consultants, Therapy Team, Psychology, Matron and Advanced Clinical Practitioner.
The role requires strong, motivated, and supportive leadership with the ability to be responsive to the ever-changing priorities, being able to build strong relationships and inspire the team. In return we will support and develop you as a leader through supervision, mentorship, and training.
We are a supportive directorate that includes all Older Adult Services, community, home treatment, dementia, and inpatient services and pride ourselves in developing a just and learning culture.

Main duties of the job
As Ward Manager you will lead the nursing team in providing high-quality care to support older adults experiencing an acute episode of mental illness, whilst also supporting your colleagues and promoting good teamwork.
You will lead by example, acting as a positive role model to all members of the team, working with the ward leadership team to create a caring and compassionate culture that provides high-quality, patient-centred care.
Other duties include:
o To provide leadership and management to the ward and clinical team
o Ensure safe staffing with appropriate skill mix at all times
o To provide evidenced based professional support and advice to the multi-disciplinary team.
o To lead and promote education and staff development for the continued professional growth of the team members and students.
o To ensure the delivery of high standards of nursing care in accordance with evidence based professional practice, policies and procedures.
o Ensure legislation policies and procedures are implemented and staff has access to them and an understanding of their use.
o Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the ward
o Work closely with Home Treatment Team to ensure close partnership working across the pathway
o Manage allocated budget ensuring resources are efficiently and effectively used and maintained.

To undertake a range of management responsibilities, including but not limited to; recruitment and selection processes, performance management, appraisal, sickness/ absence management and staff development.
To work in partnership with the Consultant, Advanced Clinical Practitioner and Therapy Team to ensure that expert leadership is demonstrated which meets the holistic health needs of older adults within an acute mental health division.
To provide high visibility leadership, driving forward team developments by demonstrating an exemplar of expert practice, thereby energising and motivating staff to continually deliver person centred care of the highest quality.
To ensure that the voice of patients and their families/carers is listened to and suggestions for changes to practice are respected and where necessary, escalated to senior decision makers within the organisation. Thereby embedding a 'You Said, We Did', ethos within the team.
To provide expert nursing and clinical care in the delivery of holistic person-centred care for people living with mental health needs.
To promote and sustain the development of fully collaborative care planning relationships with patients, their families/carers (as appropriate) and the multi-disciplinary team.
