- To collect data and examine patients for a wide range of ophthalmology sub specialty studies including medical retina, glaucoma, corneal and vitreo-retinal research projects
- To personally deliver a range of core optometric and extended role clinical services to the highest standards of quality and care to meet the changing needs of the department of ophthalmology.
- To undertake clinical audit and administrative tasks
- BSc (Hons) Optometry Degree
- GOC Registration
- City & Guilds qualification in Diabetic Retinopathy Screening
- Speciality qualification as an Independent Prescribing Optometrist
- Achievement of a higher degree / College of Optometrists' higher qualification
- Significant post-registration experience
- Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary team
- Previous experience in Hospital Optometry
- Experience of Diabetic Retinopathy screening
- Experience of initiating or working as part of a research project or clinical audit
- Experience of inter-professional teaching
- Evidence of continuing education and training
- Specialist knowledge of visual assessment, investigation and imaging techniques
- An understanding of the widening role of an Optometrist within the Hospital Eye Service.
- Good Optometric skills
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to independently assess and make clinical decisions
- The ability to recognise limitations of own clinical competence and seek support from senior staff when indicated

Are you an Optometrist with an interest in clinical research?
We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our research team within the Cambridge Eye Research Centre (CERC) at Cambridge University Hospitals, Addenbrookes Hospital.
The Cambridge Eye Research Centre hosts some of the world's leading Ophthalmologists, with expertise in a variety of subspecialty areas of Ophthalmology, and a strong interest in clinical research. With an ever increasing portfolio of clinical trials we require a Research Optometrist to join our experienced multidisciplinary team.
You will be responsible for: identifying and approaching potential participants through screening clinics checking eligibility as well as performing a number of ophthalmic clinical assessments, within a supportive clinical environment. This is an excellent opportunity to become involved with national and international cutting edge research involving novel therapies for eye diseases among our patients.
