    Description

    Birchwell Associates is excited to present an excellent opportunity for an Automation and Control Development Engineer. This role is ideal for engineers who thrive on the challenge of developing and implementing complex automation, mechatronic, and data acquisition systems for cutting-edge automotive and industrial environments.

    Responsibilities:

  • Determine the best way to implement bespoke automation and control processes for various applications using internal software and customer-supplied requirements and specifications.
  • Develop C# control software using the advanced API to implement solutions, with knowledge of VB6/VBA for supporting legacy systems.
  • Interface with third-party equipment for integration within the control environment.
  • Develop automation sequences using standard editor tools and analyze engineering systems to advise on the best methods of automation.
  • Analyze post-test diagnostics logs to advise on fault rectifications within complex engineering systems.
  • Create test and acceptance procedures and customize system functionality based on customer requirements.
  • Conduct frequent site visits to install, test, and document solutions within the UK and globally as required.
  • Understand and modify electrical systems to suit applications and work with commissioning engineers and project/site managers to achieve customer sign-off.
  • Undertake own initiative garage projects based on anticipated future requirements and enhancements of existing tools.
  • Provide information to the sales department for quotation purposes and manage source code via SourceTree, BitBucket, and Jira.
  • Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in mechatronics, robotics, automation, or similar engineering discipline.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a hardware-based automation role.
  • Good understanding of C# and Visual Studio, as well as automation hardware such as sensors, actuators, and inverters.
  • Experience with PLC systems, particularly safety PLC systems, is desirable but not essential.
  • Self-driven and proactive individual with excellent time management skills.
  • Willingness to work away from home during the working week as required, with occasional overseas trips.
  • Full UK driving license and indefinite right to work in the UK.
