About us

Transport for London (TfL) are the integrated transport authority responsible for meeting Mayor Sadiq Khan's strategy and commitments on transport in London.

We run the day-to-day operation of the Capital's public transport network and manage London's main roads, covering London's buses, London Underground, Docklands Light Railway, London Overground and London Trams.

We also run London River Services, Victoria Coach Station and the congestion charge scheme.

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Procurement Indirects.

This is a wonderful opportunity to join the senior team in Transport for London's Procurement and Commercial (P&C) function, who are responsible for driving the success of London's public transport through developing and embedding commercial strategies that support business outcomes and drives the best value from our £3.6bn of annual operating and capital expenditure.

Through our Financial Sustainability Plan (FSP) we will continue to provide a world-class public transport and active travel service that offers value for money as London's economy recovers.

P&C has a critical role to play in the delivery of the FSP, and will provide strategic commercial leadership, influence and constructive challenge to drive benefits across TfL's third party spend.

About the role

The Head of Procurement, Indirects, will provide leadership, influence and guidance to the organisation on delivering successful strategic focussed contracts with multi-million-pound value and criticality, delivering our ambition of offering outstanding value.

The role will require working alongside various high-profile stakeholders and customers, including senior colleagues across TfL, City Hall, Government, and of course our supply chain.

The role will be required to lead and motivate a team of circa 50 FTE including 7-12 direct reports and will report directly to the Director of Procurement & Commercial - Operation.

In your role as a senior leader, you will drive the adoption and embedding of new frameworks, processes, systems and drive a continuous improvement culture and change across P&C teams to deliver the best value for the organisation.

The role will cover categories across People, Vehicles, Marketing and Consultancy.

You will effectively partner your business areas to ensure that specifications are informed by supplier market intelligence, category strategies and robust estimates establishing yourself and the wider P&C function as key strategic partners to the business.

About you

You will demonstrate leadership and experience in working in, building and managing large scale high performing teams combined with a track record of driving and delivering significant cost savings.

You will model the highest standards of performance at all times and champion a diverse and inclusive working culture in which everyone, no matter what their role or aspiration, can be managed to achieve their best.

This requirement is in line with the Mayor's Transport Strategy which calls for TfL to reflect the city which it serves.

The role maximises the D&I impact of our wider role within London including through our supply chain, delivery partners and stakeholders.

You are an exceptional individual with extensive executive commercial accountability and experience across a wide range of goods and services.

We are looking for someone with strong experience in professional services to drive our business forward.

You are expected to have broad experience of unlocking significant value from supply chain organisations and specifically demonstrate your ability to build, transform and deliver performance driven Procurement organisations in mature, complex businesses and a thorough understanding of how a procurement and supply chain will achieve the delivery of outstanding value.

Specifically, you will be able to state how to achieve a performance-driven function and how this will be communicated.

Importantly you should have a clear understanding of how these achievements will be relevant to the delivery of the objectives across the high-profile internal stakeholders and customers.

You will be able to demonstrate your expertise across a wide range of categories and demonstrate how you have implemented category strategies and the benefits these have delivered.

You should also be able to demonstrate what effective procurement 'looks and feels like' to key stakeholders.

You should also be able to demonstrate a command of effective, people and cultural change leadership and commercial and stakeholder influence management experience at a senior level across both public and private sector organisations.
