    The Opportunity:
As our Global & Direct Tax Specialist, you will be primarily focused on managing the tax risks of a challenging and evolving globally mobile staff population who undertake a variety of mission critical activities in an increasing number of jurisdictions. In addition, you will lead the process for delivering statutory compliance across corporation and employment tax areas, maintaining an optimised tax position for the University, aligned with our published Tax Strategy.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual who understands the importance of effective tax risk management and compliance, ideally within a large and complex Higher Education institution with extensive Global ambitions. You will support the ongoing development and continuous operational improvement of the University's policy approaches, business processes and initiatives across all direct tax areas, domestically and internationally. Working closely with colleagues at all levels across the breadth of the University as well as external advisors, you will lead and manage the process for all direct tax compliance activities for the University Group and have an innovative approach to strategy.

You will be someone who is both comfortable working pro-actively and managing your own workload, as well as confident collaborating with others and communicating regularly with senior colleagues and other key stakeholders. There will be plenty of opportunities to learn new skills or further develop and enhance your current skills.

This post is full-time (35 hours per week), however, we are open to considering part-time or flexible working patterns. We are also open to considering requests for hybrid working (on a non-contractual basis) that combines a mix of remote and regular on-campus working.

Your skills and attributes for success:

  • Typically, 5+ years vocational experience, demonstrating development through involvement in progressively more demanding relevant work/roles OR Professional Tax qualification, ATT/CTA (Chartered Tax Adviser)
  • Experience of analysing complex information from a variety of sources within tight deadlines
  • Ability to communicate tax technical matters in a non-technical way, both orally and in writing
  • Proven analytical approach to problem solving with attention to detail and ability to combine technical knowledge with pragmatic and commercial judgement
  • Skilled in leading change: presenting the facts, influencing opinions, being receptive to counter arguments, and agreeing new ways of working
