An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, self-motivated dietetic assistant practitioner to join our HPB dietetic team at Royal Liverpool Hospital (RLUH) site.
The hospital, which is a university teaching hospital, is the regional centre for HPB cancer surgery in Cheshire and Merseyside. This post supports the HPB dietetic team in providing a dietetic service to this complex group of patients.
We are looking for a dietetic assistant with excellent communication skills, the ability to work both independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team, and with some experience of working with people with complex nutritional needs.
The post holder will be responsible for supporting the HPB dietitians in delivering dietetic input to the HPB service within RLUH.
The role involves providing inpatient and outpatient services to HPB cancer patients, including supporting the dietitian in their assessment, treatment, and review of highly complex, acutely ill patients within the service.
There will be extensive collaborative work with other institutions and community teams to provide seamless care to the busy outpatient caseload, with onward referrals to specialist centres as required. The dietetic assistant practitioner will collect and analyse anthropometric data, with appropriate training provided.
Main duties of the job
Operational responsibilities include monitoring referrals and activity, triaging the HPB dietetic caseload/SOS calls as necessary, evaluating service activity and effectiveness with the support of senior team members, and responding to the demands of the service.
The dietetic assistant practitioner will work with the HPB team contributing to resource development, outcome monitoring and audit, and ongoing service improvement.
We provide regular supervision, appraisals, and team meetings. The HPB dietetic team are part of a larger dietetic team with regular meetings and opportunity for Continued Professional Development (CPD).
The Royal Liverpool University Hospital Dietetic Department consists of 30 dietitians and 6 dietetic assistants. This includes Specialists in Upper GI, Nephrology, Diabetes, Nutrition Support, Gastroenterology and Haematology.
The department has a well-established Practice Supervision programme for new starters and is also committed to training other Health Care Professionals and student dietitians (P2 and P3 students)

To undertake specific skilled support work independently, as identified and demonstrated by the Dietetic staff. To accept patients referred by a dietitian and carry own caseload. To treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression, make minor alterations to patient treatment programmes as required. Work independently, reporting back patient progress and informing the Dietitian of any problems.
