    Are you an enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapist with a strong clinical skill set? Would you like to work within a dynamic and friendly Paediatric Team? If so then this job is for you

    You will have the opportunity to assess and manage the communication needs of children and young people in our well established and friendly Special Schools as well as the exciting mix of working within our Core Speech and Language Service across Swansea Bay.

    If you have experience in working across clinical specialities and age ranges supporting children and young people with complex communication needs then this is for you

    Within this post, you will be supporting children and young people with PMLD and MLD some of whom are utilising AAC devices and working in MDT environments to upskill other professionals. Within the core role, you will work with a range of speech, language and communication difficulties in clinics and schools across the Swansea Bay footprint.

    Main duties of the job

    You will need to demonstrate excellent team working and an ability to adapt to different working environments.

    You will develop your knowledge of assessments and target setting.

    You will need to work flexibly across the service, developing successful relationships with our stakeholders.

    You will have the opportunity to implement and upskill others in intervention packages developed in-house within the Special School service.

    You will be a representative of the Speech and Language Therapy service attending relevant meetings or acting as a first point of contact at our consultation clinics.

    You will be part of a diverse and supportive team and you will have access to regular team meetings, supervision and CPD activities.

    Qualifications & Training

    Essential criteria

  • Recognised SLT degree or equivalent
  • Registered member of RCSLT and HCPC
  • Completion of postgraduate specialist courses e.g. Dysphagia etc.
  • Desirable criteria

  • Relevant postgrad courses
  • CEN member
  • Experience

    Essential criteria

  • Assessment and management of individuals with severe and complex disabilities
  • Support and mentor less experienced SLT's, students and assistants
  • Use and interpretation of assessments for specialist caseload
  • Experience and knowledge of use of AAC
  • Planning and delivery of clinical audit
  • Experience and implementation of a range of specialist treatment options for individuals and groups
  • Training or teaching of SLTS, other professionals, medical staff and assistants
  • Ability to plan, prioritise and manage specialist caseload without direct supervision
  • Desirable criteria

  • Working within an MDT
  • Knowledge and Skills

    Essential criteria

  • Specialist knowledge underpinned by current evidence-based practice
  • Accurate administration and analysis of assessments leading to differential diagnosis
  • Good verbal and written skills to share complex and sensitive information
  • Able to work unsupervised and independently as an active member of MDT negotiating case management
  • Demonstrates understanding of wider public service policies
  • Implementation of clinical governance/audits/research within own specialism
  • Ability to use Microsoft packages including virtual platforms, spreadsheets etc
  • Desirable criteria

  • Experience of conflict resolution
  • Ability to speak Welsh

  • Ability to travel between sites in a timely manner to meet the business needs
