  • FRCS, FRCOphth or equivalent
  • Be on the specialist register for Ophthalmology
  • Full GMC Registration (with a 'Licence to Practise').
  • Entry on GMC Specialist Register for Ophthalmology or within Six months of anticipated CCST date on date of interview
  • Desirable

  • Training qualification
  • Fellowship in Vitreo-retinal or cataract (or a subspecialist interest that complements the department)
  • Relevant Higher Degree or equivalent
  • Traning/Experiance/ Research
    Essential

  • Evidence of thorough and broad training and experience in vitreo-retina surgery
  • Ability to carry out high volume cataract surgery
  • Experience of and undertaken Clinical Audit, with recently presented findings
  • Able to take responsibility for delivering service without direct supervision
  • Desirable

  • Evidence of recently published research or case reports.
  • A special interest complementary to the existing services

  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Demonstrate the ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Team leadership skills
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the educational needs of trainees and commitment to effective teaching at all levels
  • Experience of teaching clinical skills to a wide Multi Disciplinary Team audience
  • Understanding of the principles and implementation of Clinical Governance
  • Computer Literacy
  • Desirable

  • Ability to innovate and develop new technology and methods
  • Special Requirments
    Essential

  • Commitment to the Development of a quality Ophthalmic service for ULHT
  • Maintain own education to a minimum standard set by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists and show a commitment to continual learning
  • Ability to develop National Care Pathways in Ophthalmology.
  • Understanding and commitment to modernising the service.
  • Desirable

  • Recent experience of developing a service
  • Ability to consolidate and organise change
  • Able to contribute to department and CMT management
