GSL are looking for a dedicated Learning Support Assistant to support children with Social, Emotional and Mental health challenges and associated, challenging behaviours.

There are still lots of stereotypes and misconceptions about autism and the cognitive impact it can have on speech and language, especially in relation to girls.

In this role, you will work with boys and girls who will exhibit many different behaviours, from high functioning to lower/mix ability students, empathy and not jumping to judgment are key characteristics to have.


The School:


A special school for SEMH & Complex Social Needs, focussed on Speech and Language needs, 85 children, boys and girls, located in Romford, provides a safe learning environment and outstanding education for pupils aged 3-16, typically with a primary diagnosis for their SPLCN and further associated conditions, including Autism Spectrum Conditions (ASC), Attention Deficit Disorder, Dyslexia & Dyspraxia.

You will have the opportunity to work with children who are verbal and nonverbal, mixed ability to very high functioning students.


The school have OTs that come into the school for 1:1 and specialist work, on top of the Therapist who is on site.

The school encourages graduates who are aspiring Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists to apply, these are the skills and objectives they are looking to develop.


The school has an incredible site, the children and staff realise how fortunate to have such facilities, there are high support Autistic children, who need such support, who won't be getting it.

Much therapy follows a 'blended' model of Clinical and therapeutic intervention which is delivered across the curriculum, and there is close liaison with teaching staff and parents.

There will be elements of personal care, you will be taught how to use

The School
- *_ Hours - 8:30-4:00, Monday to Friday, term time only

  • Safety of the students, their safeguarding is paramount and the basis of what you will do in school
  • Can you make their lives just that little bit better on that given day?
  • Willing to work 1:1 and in small groups with students, classes are often 36 students in number
  • Being able to form relationships on comfort first, before moving to content and raising attainment, you can't have one before the other
  • Able to provide behaviour and pastoral support
  • Attending staff meetings and complete appropriate CPD

  • Having the ownership to speak with your colleagues when you see something that concerns you, approach it in the right, professional manner
  • Passionate about raising children's social and emotional attainment through building comfort, being able to build on that with the different therapies provided
  • Understanding that the behaviour displayed towards you, sometimes, isn't personal, natural frustrations displayed when a child is not always able to communicate. Keeping the professional, mentor relationship, remaining calm and staying resilient when placed in situations of stress or conflict.
