    Applications are invited for the post of Trust Doctor in Cardiology / Clinical Registrar with subspecialty training in Heart Failure / Devices or Coronary intervention.

    This job is based in a dynamic acute cardiology unit and is suitable for those interested in a career in cardiology or seeking to work at specialty doctor level.

    This post provides excellent training and experience in all aspects of general and sub specialty cardiology although it does not carry a national training number.

    Cardiology is responsible for the investigation and treatment of all forms of adult cardiac disorders and supports the large outpatient service, a rapid access chest pain clinic, rapid access heart function clinic, a 10 bedded coronary care unit, cardiac investigation unit and non-invasive investigations hub (including echocardiography, exercise testing, tilt testing, outpatient clinics and device monitoring clinics).

    Cardiac inpatient work is based primarily on coronary care unit, cardiac investigation unit and Roskear Ward. We have very experienced nursing team supporting the ward base care along with specialist nursing team.

    Main duties of the job

    The post would suit a post MRCP doctor looking for more extensive cardiology experience and training in sub specialties. The junior role would suit a person seeking experience in cardiology before applying for specialty training.

    These roles cover 10 sessions Monday to Friday with no on-call commitment. There are no GIM duties. There is a cardiology registrar rota covering the wards, referrals, GP calls, acute medical unit and emergencies. When not covering the bleep the duties include clinics, cardiac catheter lab sessions and/or echocardiogram/imaging/complex devices/intervention depending on the post holder's experience.

    There is an expectation that the clinical registrar will be involved with audit and quality improvement projects.

    There are several research opportunities available to the successful candidate.

    Cardiology is part of the Acute and Emergency Medicine care group. The Care Group is responsible at Executive Level to the Chief Operating Officer. The Care Group is comprised of individual specialties with a Clinical Specialty Lead, Service Manager and Matron managing each specialty, reporting to the Care Group triumvirate comprised of a Clinical Director, General Manager, and Head of Nursing.
